Default New Apple keyboard (mini-review)

Well, I went out and tried out one of the new USB Apple keyboards.
I was so prepared to hate this thing since i never liked any laptop keyboard.
I also hate the Apple mouse as well and actually use a Microsoft Notebook Optical Mouse 3000.

And I bought one. Why? Well, I quickly found that not only does it improve my touch typing for faster speeds, but on regular keyboards I found myself not being able to get my pinky finger off the shift key fast enough and that wound up capitalizing the first two letters of a word, forcing me to go back and correct it. Well, not anymore.

The keyboard itself also requires you to hit Apple's Software Update in order to download and install new drivers for the new keyboard otherwise it's not going to work right on your Mac.

The key spacing (pitch) is the same as on the regular Apple laptop keyboard.
I know, my iSkin Macbook Pro keyboard overlay fits the QWERTY key arrangement on the new keyboardperfectly except for the new keyboard having a bigger spacebar and bigger control, alt/option, command, function, and arrow keys.

This keyboard will not be everyone's cup o' tea with it's laptop-style keys.
The keys themselves are the same size as the old Apple keyboard, but with a shorter keypress needed.
I think Apple went this route because it will eventually lower their overall keyboard manufacturing costs. Less plastic to have to mold.
I could never type quickly on the Macbook Pro due to the damn touchpad being in the way. I hate touchpads and prefer to use a real mouse, but it seems every laptop today has one.
Overall, I can only recommend this new keyboard if you're really used to typing on a laptop. If you prefer the nice big keypresses found on a regular keyboard then stay far away from this one.

I'm ordering a bluetooth keyboard for on-the-go action, mostly because it's smaller than the old style bluetooth keyboard due to Apple dumping the numeric keypad.
The new Apple bluetooth keyboard is basically the same size as the keyboard found on Apple's laptops with the exception of the special keys being full-size.

In your opinion, will the Bluetooth version be worth the extra cash?

I'm still debating whether it's worth it to also wait the extra 3-5 weeks for one when ordering a new iMac.

Well if your going to go for the nice clean desktop look I say yes...

Iball once you get the Bluetooth keyboard can you tell me how good it will work with a windows PC(not bootcamp...)

I may just pick it up if it great...I also hate the felling with you capitalize 2 letters...I think you can see many cases of that in many of my post...

That depends...how much do you use the numeric keypad?
If you're a heavy gamer then you might want to use the USB keyboard since it still has the numeric keypad.
Since I almost never use it, it's no big loss to me and it's perfect for when I have to travel since it's smaller than the current Apple bluetooth keyboard.

Guess what? When an Apple computer is re-booted into Windows via bootcamp it IS a Windows computer then.
There's no difference between Windows running on a Mac via bootcamp and Windows running on regular non-Apple PC hardware.
I think you're just wondering if it will work with a regular PC that doesn't have the Apple drivers/software installed on it. I'll check.
Basically if it can pair up and be used with my Nokia N800 Internet Tablet which is Linux-based then it should be able to work with a windows computer as well. I know my regular old-style Apple Bluetooth works just fine with the N800 so I'm thinking this one will as well.

Yea that what I was wondering... I was also thinking that the Bluetooth driver was installed when you installed xp on bootcamp... I use a Bluetooth 2.0 USB Adapter and have no idea if the keyboard drivers will work with the Bluetooth 2.0 USB Adapter vs a built in Bluetooth boot camp driver...

80 bucks is alot to spend on a keyboard for me..(I only spend 40 bucks on my wireless keyboard and mouse...)So I really want to make sure everything works...)like the music keys see if they work with itunes....

ALso can you test if it will work with ubuntu also...

I'm working on another new one like yours with the "Achievement Unlocked".
Balls of Fury looks fun, but Shoot 'Em Up looks better.
