my birthday is coming up and I'm considering buying myself a new mac as a gift from me to me. Right now I have a mac mini that's been frankensteined so that it runs off an external esata drive, ram maxed out...but it's got a ****ty processor, 1.83 non core 2 duo I think. Either way, rather than upgrading the processor I've decided to get a new mac and sell the mini monster off. So, I'm gonna spend about 1,800 on a new mac, and my choices are either a 24 inch imac, or a 15 2.4 ghz inch mbp (not a newly updated one but an affordable preupdate mbp). They're both almost equally spec'd except for the screen and hdd size/rpm, but considering I'm moving from a mini to an imac or mbp, either would be an improvement. I like the bigger screen of the imac, though if I'm not mobile or away from a desk, I would use the mbp with my 22in monitor, so screen size really isn't a factor. Also, I have a loose dvi connected to my hdtv, so I can easily connect the mbp to it to watch videos and **** without having to mess with cables or lugging around stuff. I want the mbp because I can sit on my couch, lay on my bed, take a ****, etc and can still be on the computer, but is this worth the difference of whatever an imac can offer that the mbp can't?
