Slingplayer Mobile for S60 3rd Edition
Well, for those of you out there that have a Slingbox and a Symbian S6 3rd Edition FP1 phone (Nokia N95, E90, etc.) Sling has released their Slingplayer client for those phones.
I got my client free with the purchase of a Slingbox Pro and let me tell you, it's frickin' EXCELLENT!
It almost never drops out and the other night I watched about 4 hours of TV on it and still had 50% of my battery life left.
Tried it from work on our wi-fi there and it works just like I was connected directly to my home network. And for those of you with a compatible phone on a 3G network you can view your home TV via Slingbox from ANYWHERE there's 3G coverage (read: AT&T in large cities with US N95 and regular S60 3rd Edition phones everywhere else on the planet.)
There's no "lag" between the audio and video either.
Now, granted the quality is not as good as ripped-from-DVD movies but it's still pretty good. I've setup several favorites and jumping to and fro them is as simple as clicking on one of the icons. When you setup a favorite you can select from a large selection of pre-made icons for each channel (History channel, Discovery, CNN, Sci-Fi, Comedy Central, etc.) usually the network logo. Nothing quite like walking in to an Apple store to buy a copy of Leopard and when they ask if I've used an iPhone I whip out the N95 and ask them if the iPhone can stream TV from my home.
Sling normally charges $29.95 for the S60 client (free upgrades for life) and if you have a compatible phone it's worth it.
Now, if only they had a client for the Nokia N800/N810 and my Slingbox Pro would be perfect.
Or one for the Blackberry Curve 8320 my company just issued me...
As always, the Slingplayer clients for Windows XP/Vista and Mac OS X are free and work perfectly as well.
