Slacker Portable Player
I definitely like the concept of the Slacker Portable Player. Hold "stations" on your portable media player that update themselves with music based on how you customise the station, updating and removing artists when you hook it up to your computer depending on how you rate their songs. One of the things I miss from my first generation Zune is unlimited music and browsing through an open marketplace, playing whole songs and instantly downloading albums. I have an iPhone now and there's no subscription services that works with the iPhone since Apple doesn't let them use the DRM that the iPhone and iPod line supports, and Apple has been against subscription music so I doubt they'll create their own subscription. Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone, I just wish there was some kind of music subscription service that worked with it. Anyway, the Slacker player has a nice UI and a nice concept. It'd probably be one of my top choices if I was choosing between portable media players.
http://www.slacker.com/products/portables/ There're a few bad things about the Slacker Portable Player, too. To start, there's no video playback (yet), despite a 4" screen. The screen may appear to be a touch screen, but there's really a white touch strip on the side of the screen for scrolling through menus and songs and physical buttons to do everything else.
EDIT: Actually, it's interesting to point out this service for the iPhone that's like the service on the Slacker player, only you can stream the music to the iPhone. The Slacker service is far superior, though.
I'm quite familiar with this device. It has such a beautiful but no ability to play music. And the streaming has commercials it's free and you can pay like $10 or something a month to get rid of them. I just can't stand that though. Overall seems like a quality device.
This looks pretty useless to me because you can't put your own music on it, or am I wrong?
