I just saw this article in my copy of The Boston Globe and it looks really cool.
I'm not gonna write up the whole article, but here's the main points.
Basically, this spanish company is seeking to provide a wi-fi network for the whole world. So, they sell their router for 5$ with shipping of 8$. The catch is that when you have it, you must let anyone in range of your router who has a membership with FON (comes with the router) use it. So, for 13$, you can get a quality wi-fi router with no real catches at this point, seeing as they're not quite popular yet.
