Why did the N64 DD, SEGA CD, neo geo disk addon (there is one right?) and all others fail untill the ps1? I know as a kid I didn't like loading, and in my ignorance would cry out why does my ps1 have them but not my n64, but I was always careful with the disks so no problems there. Were people scared or something, did cds seem like a bad medium for games? What was the deal?

Because they were addons with very few games for them, most of them were released near the end of the consoles life when there successors were in development. So people didn't buy them because they were waiting for the next generation of consoles.
The PS1 was a dedicated console with a long future ahead of it. |

well idk cd's back then were pretty much office base or music and kids didnt really own them cartridges didnt have to be treated delicate where cd's did. Think would you trust a kid with a cartridge that he can throw around or a cd.
