Default PS2 Network Adapter Help

OK Here is my situation.
About 4 years ago, I tripped on my network adapter cord while playing Splinter Cell Online.
Then the game froze and nothing worked when I restarted my PS2.
So I took the PS2 apart and took out the onboard battery for a couple minutes, popped it back in and the PS2 worked, but it wasn't detecting the network adapter as attached to the system.

So today, I plugged it all back in, same problem, tried my friends working network adapter, it didnt detect the hardware. I tried my network adapter in his PS2 and it worked fine.

SO I know the problem is my PS2, in one way or another as my network adapter works in other PS2s and other network adapters do not work in mine.

My question here, if anyone has an answer, is how can I fix this problem?

Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks!

All I can say if for ease buy a new Ps2. With the Ps3 and PSP out .etc a second hand Ps2 will be dirt cheap.
