You know, I really dont know how to start this post out.. its just too much a overload for the time..
Thats the WD line up for Sega cd. All of them are VERY worth playing and are classics!
Lunar 1 - I remember with sis the 1st time we saw this.. our friends mother was playing this game, we were not interested, It wasnt Mario or Sonic.. (This was at a age, we didnt play RPGs on consoles.. did play AD&D however on PC and in RL), wasnt till she was stuck in the Meribian sewers against that dragon, that I said, Let me look at it.. I looked.. studied thought, OH she didnt have a MAGIC spell yet!!! (No one knew where "Black rose street" was at the time! Thank you Nash, for helping us get it!) After I beat it.. I was hooked.. she hardly saw it again cause sis and I had it.
Started over from the start. Playing the game was amazing! It was rich, full of life and meaning. I mean the little jokes.. if you went to black rose street BEFORE Nash was there, the way she tried to give you magic was funny.. checking toes and so. It was amazing. Going around at the start, walking around for HOURS leveling up around Althenas shrine was interesting, just to get to like level 13-18 before killing the sewer dragon. Was easier that way. Also learning tricks like having everyone else in the party RUN and just letting ONE person fight, to get the MAX XP.. Learned later to let Ramus go bugger off and let Alex do the work.. much faster.
Was shocked and more when I learned in the Blue Dragon cave that NASH was a traitor!!! like OMG! Woke everyone up in the house that night. Lol.
As I got more and more into it and tons of replay value.. Sis woke me up one night asking me if I was awake.. I said huh.. (I was asleep) she said to me, you were playing in your sleep.. sure enough I was.. later on it seemed that with my Sega Pro Gamer pad 2 (Pad that had extra buttons you could configure, which I used to remap the keys so I could play one handed) I learned I could play Lunar in my sleep.. seems I listed and just ran on auto.. if I was fighting a area, I would walk around mindlessly and just fight lvling up. That or actually somehow manage to continue a quest. Quite odd lol.
Later on.. as I knew all the tricks, ALL the hidden items. Spoiler: In Vane, right at the entrace to the trial cave, did you know behind that small building there is a chest?? I was like OMG! There was more chests hidden in Lunar as well! 1 behind the 2 towers in Vane, one in Nazai. Erm.. Id have to play again to remember the rest. But this was not in the book, but in the chests were the power up nuts! So if you never knew this, now you do! Also was nice that Lunar 1 had MORE spells in it to play with then the PSX.. gave you a better sense of control and feeling of options.. PSX downgraded alot there and Alex didnt use magic. =(((
Anyways Lunar 1 was great.. I was sad when I felt the magic faded as I knew what to do.. I cried however when PSX came out.. new content, a story I DONT know fully.. new replay value.. of a world I loved.. was magical all over again! =D (Played the Demo Version which is saveable and then had to wait for my order to come in after being pushed back for AGES over and over!!!)
Lunar 2 EB - Now thats something that made us cry again.. When it came on SCD.. was like HAD to have it, took awhile to get 50$ together.. but once we did.. wham.. was like 9 PM at night, hooked it up.. was blessed with the opening, and was like magic all over again.. Enjoying the new speech, the story line. The chars. That damn system point for save or magic upgrades lol. (Which also I prefered vs the whole PSX system way)
We were REALLY jumping when in the ruins.. for the 1st time.. you heard HIS voice.. I think you know who I mean.. Ghalleon! Was like Holy hell! YESSS!!! John Truitt was really remarkable for the role.. I really wish if they make a Lunar 3.. they will use him again somewhere. The Epilouge feature was a nice touch as well! To play a game after you already beat it! =)
Needless to say, Lunar 2 EB continued the role and was magical.
Granted PSX versions came out, yes it was fun, new story abit... but lacked something.. random battles.. TONS of extras spells where YOU choose what to power up (EB) and so on.. Regardless, it was worth playing all over again.
(I wont get into UBI softs remakes.. sigh.. )
Vay - Now for all you Gundam wing lovers, get this RPG, it plays like Final Fantasy, very fun, again, you need to walk around leveling up for hours, but it was FUN!!!! Cause you waited to get to the next section, this game was a "Cult" lover game.. but was very worth it, Hint, if you never checked.. you CAN find items in barrels etc like in FF6! I didnt try this in Vay OR Lunar till after I played the FF series and did this.. thats when I found chests in Lunar AND the extras in Vay. But really a fun game, Getting armor, a developed storyline and tear jerkers in all the right places. (I wont spoil this game as Im sure not many have played it)
Alot of speech in the game, items galore, hard battles and well, rather fun.. if you get the emulator with this, the save file IS hackable, so you can increase your gold and xp. ;) (I wasnt gonna play 30 hours or so for a game I knew) also there is a cheat mode built in that lets you save ANYWHERE (SCD mode) Was like push down and hold start in the menu or something.. I know it, just havent used in ages.
Popful Mail - Hard and challenging platform game with speech, Typical Action RPG. What can I say. But was very addicting, very simple, controll 3 chars each with its own ability to fight. I know I cheated on the SCD.. My Pro Pad2 I programed for the Pirate ship area for Gaw to go in the stage, Aura blast the area, collect gold, walk out and repeat, then had something hold the button down, come back later, had max gold to buy amulets. Sadly, around the last area, my save file went bad.. and I didnt go back to it to beat it being that it was hard. When the SCD emu for PC came out. I started over and played it and beat it, was amazing and very worth a play as well. =)
Nothing will ever beat Lunar.. nothing.. in our heart.. then again.. could be cause one of their last names match ours! That alone is cute..
Anyways, whats your story of WD games and SCD? How did you feel when you played, whats your memories of them? Share something. =)
