Ahh another one of Squares classic RPGs, one that is easily overlooked today.
Super Mario RPG. http://media.gamestats.com/gg/image/...oxart_160h.jpg
I was blessed when I played this on the SNES around when it first came out, fully expecting a normal mario game, I never wouldve expected a 3d type Mario with a RPG style play! From the makers of Final Fantasy, this RPG supports all major aspects of a FUN RPG, Custom level ups, item buying, "bonus" attacks if you time your button hitting just right. (Or defense)
Story line was great in itself, its about the 7 stars that you try to collect in "Super Mario World" get scattered apart and the dreams and wishes of the people are getting lost untill the balance is restored.
You have this evil sword who knocked them out of the Sky and kicked King Bowser from his own castle! Meaning Bowser and mario have to team up to save the day! Joining them is this little puppet that a kid plays with.. inherits the spirt of a star guardian and comes to life, very powerful too I might add.
Game consists of normal Mario elements, monsters, and a tradition style that made you love Mario to begin with, where you actually run around in live time, breaking bricks, finding hidden "?"s also talking to people in the town.
Had MANY mini games, some of them are VERY addicting, like the one where you need to compose JUST the right songs in the Toadstool area, or if your on Yoshi Island, you get to try to help Yoshi win the races against other Yoshis who want to take it away from him.
Battle system is very easy to play on, has "magic", "skills", "attack", even "items", one CLASSIC thing that ALWAYS got to me is when you use Princess Toadstool for the 1st time, if you time her attack right, your greeted by a extra fun sound and a extra big "SLAP" to the enemy, always had a warm spot to me cause I love slapping guys anyways. =p
I will say however, I somehow lost time for things and was not able to keep playing on SNES.. was not till later on did I play it again on emulators.. but now that you mention it.. Did I beat this game yet?? I "think" I did.. cause I think I remember when that puppet doll went away. Oh yea, think I remember now.. you beat the game and once again, Bowser goes to steal Princess lol.
Toad is his normal running self. All in all, this game is VERY fun.
For those who never played that SNES one, if you played the GBA version called "Mario and Luigi Super Saga" this plays VERY similar to that! Almost the same style too, extra attacks and all, also teaming up with Bowser again. I havent played much of that version yet, but I do own it cause I heard it was 2 player.. (Anyone know if the RPG itself is 2 player or if its only that stupid Mario battle mode thats 2 player)
I will say the game is very challenging, you WILL need to get money in the game for the items, Your allowed to only use 3 chars at a time to fight with. (If Im not mistaken) and you swap them out like you would in any Final Fantasy game. Normally one would use Mario, Geno, and Princess, (Bowser if you needed to go full assault mode)
I do remember loving to play this alot, it was very addicting and if you never played it but love Square games, you will get hooked and couple hours will fly by easy without you noticing. You will want to know whats next, what pipe to go in, what monster is next, OH my a Ghost Ship!
Finally, I will say this game had some very decent puzzles to shove, making this a VERY solid RPG to play.
Anyways, thats all for my small review of this game and how it was very much fun. =)
