AH I dont know what caused me today to think of this game, but I do know I got the song stuck in my head from the intro..
Vanguard Bandits was a "Tactics" style RPG with maybe abit of Orge Battle mixed into one from Working Designs.
Basically using Mechs (called ATAC) (So all you Gundamn wing lovers may like this!) to fight wars, and well... anything else. You had 3 REAL storylines to play on, each had a "good" or "bad" ending you could say depending on the choices you made in between battles.
Kingdom, Empire or Ruin.
I remember only playing Kingdom and Empire branches, Empire being my favorite as the hero (Bastion) gets the girl (Sadira) leader of the empire. =)
This game to me I felt had a rich story line with alot of promise. I loved playing the the ATACs and building them up, watching silly people act out, also what was interesting is after each battle.. could talk to your troops, only 3 out of many to build a relation with them, better they liked you better storylines happened or so as well as deciding which girl you get in the game.
Fighting to defeat a evil Zulwarn Mech..
you have MANY choices.. if a friend dies in battle, their morale drops and you need to cheer them up. So best advice is.. dont let anyone die. =p Otherwise you will get a bad ending as you dont have the power of your friends to help you.
Tactics style battle, (Block by block)
Made this VERY fun to play for me as I ALWAYS loved a tactics game ever since Final Fantasy Tactics. (I never played SNES Orge Battle till much later on) Having in game taunts and speech when fighting, also where hitting someone from the rear, really made a BIG difference if your attack would work! (Or skill of your ATAC)
I loved Puck however.. he was the one working on new designs and making upgrades and repairs. Was quite fun if he gave you a new toy to play with, or a new ATAC if you play RUIN mode.
I dont remember how I got this game to be honest.. I do know I have the hardcover guide book which REALLY helps! Even had stickers for the memory cards lol. (I left them in the book to last)
I guess I can say that playing this game, choices, getting involved with the characters, learning of betrayals and more. This game had quite a story packed into it! Also replay value to get a different story! Not just alternate endings but REAL stories depending how you played. So very much to branch off of.
The 2 songs in this game, well at 1st you might hate it, but it kinda grows on you after awhile. Lol.
I do rember playing for hours on end, cause the battles alone could take awhile to beat like normal tactics, also reloading in case I lost someone I didnt wanna lose and so.
The customizing of the ATACs was alos a plus personally, cause I felt in control of my game and as well as the story itself. I kinda wanna play it again and do the RUIN mode story.. which can only end in a bad way heh...
I guess one could say this was a cult type game. Either you liked it or you didnt. I know I loved it and it was very worth playing from WD.
So if your intro tactics and mechs with a good storyline that has replay value, try it out! You will be hooked from the get go. =D
Anyone else here play it? What did you like the most about it?
