Hey all, time again for some life around here. Posting a old memory about a classic and VERY fun game!
Suikoden! 1 and 2.
Man, I remember when I was in Babbages when I first picked these 2 games up at the same time. At 1st I had seen the 1st game around for awhile... looked at it.. didnt seem good, I mean look at the cover art! Geez! Anyways the SECOND game looked nice indeed.
However, since I didnt want to ruin the fun, I had to play the first one. I was AMAZED at the storyline and battle system!
This game was action packed, custom feel, char combos etc. Was like NICE! Recruiting new heros was fun, trying to get everything done, expanding your castle, free roam of the world and battle system and characters you could get into and see their own story.
Suikoden 2 was the same way, what was AMAZING there is Vicktor and Flik were back! Was like OMGWTFBBQ! WHOO HOO!!! (As well as MANY other chars)
One flaw... I didnt know about that you needed 108 stars of destiny in the 1st to load your data on the 2nd one... opps... so guess what I did..
Played the first one.. beat it. (Without all 108)
Played second one.. got toward the END where your orig here is SUPPOSED to be! Like WHOOPS... stopped playing THAT, REPLAYED the 1st one, got a perfect game, then replayed the 2nd all in one stretch of time. LOL. Thats how hooked I was.
Granted.. I wondered so much about Pahn... I thought you COULDNT beat Teo... Didnt know, you just need to REALLY upgrade his weapon, level and defense to win.. opps..
Granted... these days I let my friend play on the PC PSX emulator.. boy I envied her... Geez.. imagine gambling with a save state.. sigh... so cheap.. back in my game I had to SAVE and LOAD.. too much a hassle.. she was able to save state till she kept her winnings high etc. LOL. Also helps for a boss battle. =p
These games were fun indeed. (Was upset at 1st about Suikoden 3.. wasnt like the 1st 2 sadly.. but I grew to like it after I played it, then read the currently out Manga series for Suikoden 3.)
The Rune system is also great, customize your characters YOU like to play with most, give them a rune to help your battle style and GO. Good puzzles, trying to figure out where 108 stars of destiny were and how to get them to join you. All very fun things indeed. Battles were not as easy either.
Also I love a rpg thats RANDOM battles.. not that stupid stuff where you see them coming.
Item system was rich and complex and the "Trade System" that was really huge in Suikoden 2 made visiting towns a pleasure to try to get rich.
Inside your castles you had nice events, Bath things etc. Suikoden 2 added MUCH more fun with more mini games, cooking games, bath events with certain chars and setups. Item effects etc.
Tegen and Hix was ALSO a great pleasure to watch their story in 1 and 2. Very inspiring as well. =)
S2 was fun for Vicktor and the Star Sword hehe... gone from pals to hated you deserted me. Hehe..
Found a cute pic of Victor too.
Needless to say, this game has EXTREAMLY great replay value! Game always changes depending on your style. Char useage etc. In suikoden 2.. there is a few endings. Also a challenge mode ending where you need to help Clyde get his target and you HAVE to be in key spots before "x" time. Which sucked as it didnt leave you time to talk and chill or play games. So it was a good 2nd time around play.
Later on during my phases.. I picked up the Suikoden 2 JP version.. was interesting as it has a extra disc that USA didnt have... was some sorta battle mode. Was like you see your tavern keeper there, you pick your chars at the mountain and you went to battles. Not sure what THAT game mode disc was about, If anyone has a idea, please let me know here? Thanks. (Then again.. mightve been on the same disc, dont rem, I really should try it again.)
The BEST video opening I seen was Suikoden 3 however. 1 and 2 where nice indeed, but 3 tops it off. =D
Anyways, this game is a great standard RPG, tactic feel for planning, custom feel, rich storyline, NPCs, details, fun and all around a GREAT rpg that is well unknown to many as they didnt promote the game much at all in anything. So its a game you love if you picked it up. The 1st one STILL sells as a collectors item at EB Games for like 40$ So wow...
Im lucky to have em all! =DDD
(Even the guide book for 2 and 4 hehe)
Think I have a soundtrack CD too. =)
Anyways, VERY fond memories of this game.. now if I would only get around to playing 4... started it.. havent done much.. its not the same.. it makes 3 look like a god game...
Cant WAIT for the re-release for the PSP, which will be 1 and 2 on the one UMD! WOOT!!!
Anyways, who else played this game? What did you feel when playing etc? =D
