Ahh, ok, I am surprised I didnt make mention of him earlier in my posts. Well anyways, time for another classic memory to share. =)
Sonic 1, 2 and 3, plus Sonic and Knuckles. All of these are classic. (Yes.. could mention Sonic CD, Saturn, DC etc... Not going that far into it.. just going by my classic memories of what I played on Sega Gen only)

Well I remember when the Sega system was first brought into the house. Someone tried to play it off and say its a new SNES game. I knew better hehe, Saw Sonic playing and I knew what it was. =)
I spent HOURS playing this game. The only stage I can remember in my head right now is Marble Garden. Thats the only one.. where the roof comes down and so I think. Very simple gameplay that rivaled Mario in style. Fast speed, getting rings, moving on. Sadly I never beat this game fully.. Hell.. never beat ANY of them from "Start to End" without cheating lol. Never was good at platform games "too" much. Just depends on the game.
Some shots to those who maybe dont know the games.
Well moving on, Sonic 2 came out. THIS game I LOVED the most, even today. If I have a Sega emulator on my devices.. this game will always be in there. Why? Well I know the "codes" to levels, super sonic and debug code like the back of my hand, However.. not by the numbers per say, but by the music or sfx it played. (Since I sometimes miss a number.. but I will reconize it if I play it) This game, Chemical Zone was my favorite stage out of the all... ok Scratch that, Casino Zone too. =D
With this new Sonic game, we have a new unique character addition. A character which I have never seen similar in cartoons and so with such a history to himself and such character detail.
Miles "Tails" Prower
A Technically minded fox with 2 tails who can fly and loves to help his best friend Sonic. (Ok ok, so at 1st you dont know.. but if you followed the TV series, Comic books, Mangas etc, you get the history outline of him as this all started when Sonic 2 came out and Tails was new to the world and his character was being described)
Interesting to watch him follow you, jump, spin and so. More fun when you had a 2nd controller hooked up and someone could run around and play as him. Too bad he never stayed in the frame long enough with Sonic running around and camera following him.
The 2 player modes however were priceless, great split screen action to set the pace, challenging courses and time trials etc. This however was made better in Sonic 3 though when they allowed their special abilities to be used. (Fly, speed or glide)
Playing the final battle against a robot sonic is a BLAST if you did the debug code, gave yourself 200 rings, then when the robot sonic comes down and starts up... thats when you jump and turn yourself into SUPER SONIC! (Who looks like a bad ass hedgehog who has a score to settle)
Animal Xing and Mario Kart DS lovers.

Granted.. in all Sonic games you could turn into him... I just never could collect all the Gems you needed to perform this ability.
Memory tip to those who never tried this. Did you know in Sonic 2, there is 2 2 endings? Yup! If you beat the game in Super Sonic mode. You will see Tails flying his classic trademark ship (Which here we will just call it "Tornado" lol) and instead of Sonic "landing" on the plan to be given a ride. You will see Sonic FLY next to him, and then at the end, you will see Sonic do a "Superman" style shot holding his arm out with tails in the background. Very stunning indeed. A treat to someone who never tried that before. Something new. Just load the level select code, debug code, super sonic code, give yourself rings, transform, kick Robotnics butt and go home in under 5 mins. =)
Granted.. I never did like the JP name for Robotnic.. (Eggman)
Anyways, then comes a great multiplayer game, more options, styles of play etc. Sonic 3.
When you start, you have Sonic flying till he runs into a new character who is priceless in the series, movie, and comics.
A Jamaican looking echidna with the desire to protect the Gems from falling into the wrong hands. Tricked by Robotnic to help him, he prevents Sonic from getting his tasks MANY times. As his character developed in the Sonic Movie, TV Series etc, you learn him and Sonic have a "Payback" relationship, where one sometimes gets the better of the other and having to save each other. Best friends it seems tho.
Anyways, I loved playing this game more as the Sonic and Tails combo as without tails there.. it was harder. No wait.. take that back, I played as TAILS solo. Why? Could fly around ^_^v The dual mode was fun when playing with more people, since Tails had a more active role here... Picking Sonic up and FLYING him to somewhere. Very useful! Knuckles was great to play as well since he could climb and glide around.
The multi player modes were also great to play, 3 choices to use. =D The extra shields were nice too. I loved the electric shield.. always got so many rings. =D SO Sonic 3 was more of a collect items to do more abilities type game as classic Sonic playing.
Sonic and Knuckles now.. That was the 1st time you saw the ability of merging games to make them something new. This game was a standalone game, you played as Sonic OR Knuckles. New adventure etc.. However had EXTRA uses! It could be merged with Sonic 3, allowing you to play as Knuckles from the start, accessing secret shortcuts that Sonic could never do. However, while this game is easier to merge yourself or download as a ROM.. its counterpart isnt.
Sonic and Knuckles 2!
(A extra function fun.. having Tails carry all THREE of you!)
This time, you could relive Sonic 2 in a whole new light! Using Knuckles! This game is MUCH harder to find a rom for, if at all! So unless you have the real games, this may not be something you will ever play.
Anyways, these games formed the basis of a strong lifeline, game life, as well as aspired Movies, Animes, Comics to be made and develop their characters and personality. Sonic Adventure played these roles VERY well and was similar in Sonic the Movie. Not many people can say "I dont know who Sonic is" I mean thats almost as bad as saying "Mario Bros Who?"
Anyways, I enjoyed and still enjoy these games. I kinda wanna think about maybe picking it up for the DS.. also getting the Game Cube remakes of Adventure since it uses the GBA for the Chao Garden. (Tho that aspect was unique in the Dreamcast, since you could take your Chao with you)
Anyways, very fun, classic memories in these games, loads of hours on them. My best memories are when I was in Germany or any game store at the time that was playing Sonic 2 on the Sega system, then in front of other kids or a crowd who wouldnt know about this, enter the cheat codes, turn into super sonic and watch them all in awe in the store.. hell.. even game store employees were inpressed! hehe. (Thank you Tips and Tricks magazine for being the best out there back then hehe.. I love my "Year Collectors" edition which covered ALL systems, Nes -> N64/PSX for the era. Was nice, had Sega Cd codes too hehe.. History of a system as well.)
Anyways, I think I made my long post of the time again.. I need to do more of these later in the other sections. But hopefully you can share your memories now. Like which game you played or still play more, and how you got it etc. =) Enjoy! =D
