A Few Warnings
I and QJ.net are not responsible for any damage caused to you, your property or anyone else while following this guide. However I take full responsibility for any feelings of pride in that you may have in your PS2 after following this guide.
Make sure the room is ventilated (a big window at least) I did this in my garage so was very well ventilated. Whilst it is ventilated you also dont want any wind blowing dirt/dust on the wet paint.
Make sure that you take the console completely apart before painting it. (fairly obvious). This is covered in my other guide (see sig) so I wont cover it here.
Wear old clothes.
Cover any surface you dont want painted that is within 3 metres of your work surface.
This is a long drawn out slow process to get a good finish if you have a short attention span then don’t bother.
Anyway on with the guide.
Things needed
Spray Paint (Cheapo car paint is fine), Spray Primer (again car stuff), Spray lacquer (you guessed it… car stuff) Wet and Dry paper (1200 grit), soapy water and about 3 days
You need to do really thin layers of primer. Leaving 30 mins between each coat for it to be touch dry. When you got a nice even coat of Primer then leave it for at least 12 - 24 hours (the longer the better). Then get some fine wet and dry paper (1200 grit) mix up some lukewarm soapy water and make sure the wet and dry paper is kept wet to avoid gouging the primer. Then lightly and slowly sand the primer down, you dont want to wear it down a lot this is just to remove leave a really smooth base that will grip the paint perfectly. Leave the case now while the soapy water drys. Don't rub as the paint may still be soft enough to rub and leave a nasty finish.
Then start doing the same with the paint as you did with the primer (really thin coats, 30 mins between coats). When you have a nice even layer of Paint leave it 12 - 24 hours. The with another bit of wet and dry paper (1200 grit) lightly and slowly sand the paint down, this time you just want to remove the glossy finish without damaging the paint at all. Leave the soapy water to dry again. When the soapy water is dry then the final few layers can go on and that is the lacquer.
Spray the case completly with the lacqer. Doesnt matter how light/thick the coats are particularly. But do leave at least 45 mins between the coats. It should only need 2-3 of these coats and it will look stunning. Leave the case now for a full 24 hours so that everything can become completely dry and wont rub, smudge or chip when putting the case back together.
Stand Back and admire and remember that twelve is awesome and deserves a pat on the back for sharing this with everyone.
I havent got the photos of the stages uploaded but I'll post the few that I have uploaded (just after the final coat of lacquer and the finished article). The rest will follow when I have uploaded them (they aren't on this PC)
