Hia, I just bought an XBOX for £50 with 4 games

(thanks popeofdope for pointing it out to me) and was wondering what the best way to go modding it would be to play those illegal files..? thanks if you can help!

Also, i have none of the tools and don't want to solder, as i don't wanna risk wrecking it completely!

softmod then

you need splinter cell, mech assault or another game i cant remember the name of

tutorials on xbox-scene
need to go on xbins too

You are going to have to open up your xbox, so I suggest go to a store and get a set of torx keys, they are cheap, dont worry, and easy to find, its really simple though, Its how I softmodded mine, but I have a feeling you will be scared of by the hotswapping, changing hard drive while computer is one

Trust me, i was a total n00b at xbox modding, and once i followed the guide, Im in love, and also, no version checking required becasue it works on all

the only thing that might be hard to get is that usb thing that hook up to the x box

There is only one place you can get it, xbins, and i cant tel you how to get there, a google search should help...and its not a website, its through FTP *Hint, third link on google if searched xbins*

Its easy to connect to it, and its kinda to big i think to uplaod, just follow the guide

YOu first need to connect on IRC, then to xbins on ftp

did you try differnet efnet servers, because i couldnt connect to irc at first, and tried like seatle, and it worked

and your gonna have to learn how to connect to xbins, becasue everything, and i literally mean everything you want for xbox, emulators for example, can only be found there

ok, lol, thanks. I can connect to the xbins IRC but when I try to get on to the download program it refuses my connection....HELP ME!

did you type

/msg xbins !list

and then use the password and username there, and also each time you fail at connecting, you MUST do the /msg xbins !list again

Once you get it working, amke sure to get the halo 2 killtrocity v1 and v2, they are both really awsome, and only like 1.3 gigs each, so can fit on stock HD

its supposed to be the same password every time, you need that window open when you try to FTP

lol I know exactly the deal your talking about from Argos. I noticed it on their site a couple days ago. I was thinking of getting an Xbox just to mod it, maybe use it as an FTP server, but then I thought maybe not. Anyway there plenty of cool mods, you can actually play 720p HD content off that thing with softmods and a component cable (and HDTV of course). Open up the capability of streaming content over wireless home network to Xbox, practically use it as a media centre that you can hook up to your TV. Softmods open up an array of codec support, and of course I imagine there is a lot of homebrew and emulators just like the PSP scene. And of course 'unspeakable things' just like the PSP scene

You don't need to open your Xbox up to mod it by the way. You can use the 007/MechAssault exploit. However you would need a Memory Card such as Action Replay or Xploder to transfer the hacked save on. (I used SID http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/forum4.html)

The only time you would need to open it up is to install a bigger HD using XboxHDM 1.6

I was thinking about softmodding my Xbox but I want a modchip. What modchip would you suggest? A Xecuter, Xenium, SmartXX, Cromwell, etc...

Why do you want a modchip? A softmod is easier, cheaper, and can pretty much do everything a hardmodded xbox can do

Softmods are no different than a hardmod.
I Still have 007 Night fire and the memory card for it lol.

But yea, i have softmodded all of my friends xboxs and not
one gone wrong.
(they actually have a neat recovery option aswell just in case...)

i have an X2 that i bought from some guy in the paper.

If you look in the local newspapers there's probably some little ads saying 'Xbox/Ps2 Upgrades Ring : _______'

Look for them and its simple to get a chip =)

If you've got the money i would recommend the Xecuter 3 CE first...if not you should definently go for the Xecuter 2.6 CE...and if that is still to much for you i would recommend the DuoX2
