No viruses, open source, everything is freeware, etc.

It may be harder than Windows in some respects. A lot of things require you to use the terminal, which is like the CMD in Windows. Not everything is click and you're done.

It's good for programmers, because all linux is open source. It's also really easy to run a file (or game) server on.

However, I don't think that photoshop runs in linux, correct me if I'm wrong. So you're going to want to setup a dual-boot machine (when computer boots you can choose linux or windows)

I haven't heard about that on Linux, but it does work with a Mac. The program is called Parrells. However, you need a pretty good computer to have it run smoothly.
Anyway, it wouldn't be faster.

To boot between the partitions, you will need a boot loader such as Grub, which I believe is discussed in the guide.

Madsoul, almost no Windows things work in linux, unless they're released as multi-platform (which rarely includes linux), there is a hack, or you emulate windows. I don't even know what you use for music and what not, but I doubt it will run in linux. However, a different, open source app may, so it's worth checking out.

As Adiuvo suggested, you should use GRUB to dual boot.

VMWare will allow you to run Windows from within Linux. I'm currently using it to run XP in Vista, and it works incredibly well.

And if you're doubtful about using Linux, get a FREE LiveCD.

http://shipit.ubuntu.com

Got three LiveCD's from there in a week or two. It's nice.

You could also just download the image and burn a LiveCD.

About Windows programs on Linux, you are all wrong. WINE is essentially a Windows EXE simulation that can run LOTS of Windows programs. You can even run Steam and Counterstrike with decent speeds under the right configuration. If it can run that, it can run Photoshop. Just look around for some configuration guides.

Last I checked 'all' wasn't another word for 'a few people'.
