Default computer monitoring program-like schools in canada use

Anyone know what a program that could monitor(as in watch what someone is doing) remotely in real time.

Something that can lock the computer and block certian web sites sorta like schools in canada use.

Concerning remote monitering, any type of VNC client should work. Blocking sites is fairly simple to do from your router if the targetted system is within your network.

You could have a shutdown script binded to a hotkey.

I suppose it would help clarify a bit if I knew what you were planning on using it for.

What are you trying to prevent her from doing? There are probably easier ways than remote monitering.

well the blcoking web sites and programs thing was just incase i find something that needs to be blocked its more like monitoring her conversations.

its not as easy as turnng on recording msn conversations beacuse she is smarter than that.

also if we block thinks like myspace and nexopia she will get mad and do something stupid.

MySpace is a bad influence on people and should be blocked anyways.

For your situation I'd look into SentryPC and Specter. They're not free though, so you'll either have to cough up some cash or get it through unscrupulous means.

None that I can think of offhand. 40 USD isn't too much though for the functionality you get.

Theres no real way to do it efficiently for free. Unless you want to sit there watching her the entire time she is on.

Get a cheap hardware v4 Linksys WRT54G wi-fi DSL router and then reflash it with DD-WRT and slap myspace in the block list.
Done.
For more configurability, grab an ancient computer with two NICs and run it as a Linux router.
No need to actually monitor the computer systems if you can look at the router logs to see where folks are going.
At work we use a combination of Websense and some serious ACLs to pretty much block everything not work-related.

If you don't understand any of the above then you have no business trying to attempt it.

If you have access to her computer, you can install a keylogger. That way you can record every keystroke she makes. I think there are some that actually upload the logs to an ftp site so that you don't have to go onto her computer everytime you want to read the logs.

theres a really good one that our teacher uses where you can see anyones screen in the school, and even control their mouse,

i believe he is beta testing it, but its pretty expensive for regular people.

unfortunately i forget what it is named, but i think its net 'something'
i could look it up tomorrow if you really want to know it

Most large network monitoring software can do this, including the aforementioned altiris.
