from what i understood, in vista they changed the boot.ini to the BCD (Boot Configuration Data)

Quote:
Where is the BCD file located in the registry?

BIOS-based operating systems. The BCD registry file is located in the \Boot\Bcd directory of the active partition.

EFI–based operating systems. The BCD registry file is located on the EFI system partition.
I think this is your answer:

Quote:
What are the ways that I can modify BCD?

Depending on what you want to change, you can use the following tools to modify BCD:

Startup and recovery. The Startup and recovery dialog box enables you to select the default operating system to start if you have multiple operating systems installed on your computer. You can also change the time-out value. These settings are located on the Advanced tab in the System Properties dialog box.

System Configuration utility (Msconfig.exe). Msconfig.exe is a more advanced tool with capabilities that include the following options: /debug, /safeboot, /bootlog, /noguiboot, /basevideo, and /numproc.

BCD WMI provider. The BCD Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider is a management interface that you can use to script utilities that modify BCD. This is the only programmatic interface available for BCD. For more information, see Boot Configuration Data (BCD) at the Microsoft Web (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=56792).

BCDEdit.exe. BCDEdit.exe is a command-line utility that replaces Bootcfg.exe in Windows Vista.
this stuff is all located on the web page i put up above

Just install a bootloader.

Anyway, I find it hard to believe that you bought a computer and you find it doesn't have enough RAM to run Vista without lag. Mos have 2 gigs or at least one, which are plenty to run it.

If you acquired it via other means then just turn off Aero.

I doubt that you have 445 mbs of ram. I mean thats about how much is used up when I do regular things in vista, especially aero.

I'm guessing he would have 512MB, but his graphics card is using 64MB.
