Default Vista Ultimate x64 USB problem...

Well, I installed Vista Ultimate x64 the other day, and I've been tinkering around trying to figure everything out (I know not to touch settings that I don't know what they do lol, but I am advanced enough to know about 98% of what everything does...) anyway, here recently it WILL not detect USB mass storage devices of ANY kind.
I plug it in and it says the drivers could not be installed, it knows the name of the device, and what it is... but the drivers will not install it returns an error code "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"
which I of course google and return MSDN pages on what thats about and read up... all of the solutions they note there do not fix the problem...
anybody know whats up?

Use the x86 distro.

why would I ever do that.. x64 is faster, and my board and all my parts are x64 + Vista ready... the problem JUST started happening when everything was working fine before...
WOULD *NOT* be a ARCHITECTURE issue...

x64 is only faster for programs that were compiled specifically for x64, which there aren't that many. Even then, the boost in efficiency is fairly small and irrelevant when you compare it to the driver and compatibility issues you're going to be having in the future.

As I've noted before -- My drivers and the majority of my software is x64, only about 30% of the stuff on my system is 32-bit.. including games. going to 32-bit is really just a downgrade, not to mention Windows Vista included an updated version of microsofts "x86 emulator" which is really just a wrapper that tells the processor to run it as 32-bit code, so any problems I have can easily be worked around anyway.

In theory it sounds superior, but trust me, it gives you little to no benefit at this point in time.
