Cool New Windows 2009- Windows Vienna

"Now that Vista is on the shelves, Microsoft is focusing on its next major operating system release, Windows Vienna. Even though Windows Vienna is going to be a major release with a totally revised GUI, Microsoft made a bold statement: by the end of 2009 Vienna will hit the shelves.
However, Microsoft needs to keep the buzz on Windows Vista for now and so they are not releasing any Windows Vienna official information to the public yet, expect for the fact that they are working on it."

"Windows Vienna will represent the start of a different generation of operating systems, bringing in new concepts and support for new types of hardware, along with a better security and a modular approach, which will allow future versions of Windows to be built more easily on Windows Vienna's engine.
It is also likely that the future success of Microsoft's products will be strongly decided by the success of the new generation operating system."

Sounds good. EDIT: According to Wikipedia, it was officially announced by Microsoft, but Vista could've just been MS's way for a fresh change from XP while we wait for the real next generation of Windows! A code rewrite is just what Micrsoft needed.

Wow only a whole 2 years till the new os. People who got the upgraded ver of vista must be pissed.

I hope they get rid of the .exe format and use something better and faster like Unix on osx do.

Why don't just just go back to calling it windows + [insert year]
They keep giving it nicknames and it gets stupider each time.

Windows XP Pro properly baselined and running a good AV program (I prefer Symantec Corporate Edition, free for me at least) is pretty good.
Of course, 99.9% of the population out there hasn't a fcuking clue what "information assurance" or "security" is so they have no idea how to secure their machines.
Microsoft made one hell of an improvement with XP Pro, don't knock that which YOU cannot make secure.

FTR, I run Mac OS X almost exclusively at home and only run XP Pro in Parallels if I need XP Pro to do something, namely just working with ROMs for my flashcart.

Why do so many people make the comment that they should keep working on Vista?

OF COURSE they are still working on Vista you idiots. Do you know how many people work for Microsoft? Use some god damn common sense.

Not enough people obviously since Vista is just XP Pro with more "shiny GUI" bits and harder-to-find settings.
Sounds like Microsoft needs to use some more common sense and stop trying to shove OS X/Beryl into XP Pro.
Honestly, does the world REALLY need SIX "different" versions of Vista?
No, it doesn't but it proves that Microsoft has lost any common sense they ever had.
Mac OS X has exactly two versions: OS X server and OS X.
Linux has loads of varying distributions but the underlying foundation is basically the same and it can be used in either server or desktop role.
Microsoft has SIX different versions of their desktop client and ONE version of their server software (not going into the x64 vs 32-bit thing here).
That literally makes no sense whatsoever.

thats six different prices that people will pay. if they had any common sense(which they do), they still have it. When you go out to best buy or any other place like that and you see "Windows Vista Ultimate", what do you say to yourself? For you its probably, "screw this im getting osx", but windows users say to themselves "Damn! windows vista looks so cool! oh wait its $400, guess ill have to pass. Oh wait whats this!? there is a cheaper version! lets get it!"

thats just what i think

Yes, but the "cheaper" versions don't have all the bells and whistles that Microsoft touts.
That's why some organizations are bringing lawsuits against Microsoft for deceptive business practices in regards to Vista advertising.
It's pretty much always been one price for Mac OS X client: $99.
And there's no stupid "upgrade" or "full" versions you have to "activate online" either.
And Linux w/Beryl is FREE. FREE as in BEER.
And Beryl really has MORE graphical wowness than both OS X and Vista.
It's that spinning cube thing that gets me all teary-eyed.
But the pirates always just download OSX86 and XP Pro Corporate off bittorrent any-damn-way.

microsoft is smart, they just dont have common sense. like Mike in Snoken's Frost series (search Youtube, its funny) is an idiot for accidentily time traveling him and his friend several years into the future.

that, or they really know what they are doing, which is making money. but i think they are starting to screw up big time to the point where people en masse dont like microsoft. (i've only read this: ) switching to vista is a 8itch for companies because of incompatibilities leading to an expensive necessary overhaul of...everything. also, microsoft completely abandoned the first xbox and keeps bringing newer versions of the 360 that makes buyers of previous versions go 'WTF?!'
