Help me with this please
I need a new GPU (Graphic card) to replace my ancient 6200 Nvidia .
I would have gone for a 8600GT but the problem is that my mobo does not have a PCI-E slot. Yes go ahead and laugh if you wish to.
Therefore I request you to recommend a new GPU . AGP only. Please note that I don't wish to sell my house to buy a new one. It has to be sub 200$.
Currently, I have my sights locked on the AGP version of Leadtek's 7600GT. Can anyone second this?
Ok, what speed is your AGP slot? Use everest to find out.
its an 8X. if thats what youre asking. If not .. what exactly is the speed of a AGP slot?
get this one not its like waaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive
What do you use your PC for?
If you're looking for gaming then you really want to think about saving up a bit and building a new one. AGP is dead technology, you can get a Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB DDR2, and a DX10 Nvidia graphics card fairly cheap. The motherboard will be worth spending a bit extra on, so you can play around with overclocking and get the most from the Core 2 Duo. Personally I'd say that its worth saving a bit and going for a full upgrade.
Also if you intend on running linux then Ati cards are a no as driver support sucks for them, so much so that come cards are completely incompatible with certain distros.
If you dont want to save and get a more future proof PC then go with something AGP based but be aware that more and more games will be coming out requiring better spec graphics cards.
I dont know wheter you have AGP Pro or not, so thats all i can give you.
Get an ATI x1950x AGP, about the best you can get now, quite cheap as well.
Thanks for all the advice guys. @Phil I totally agree with you. But i really cant get one now. However I had a rough idea in my head as to what it would be and you just spelt it out. I am fond of OCing and the E6300 shud keep me busy for days.
Evab how cheap are we talkin. Last time I checked it was like waaay over my budget.
ring_wraith - I can give you a $550 gaming rig wishlist (given you are in US so you can use newegg.com). It doesnt include mouse, speakers, monitor or case (as i had all of those at the time) so maybe $700 gaming rig? It plays WarRock maxed (>60 FPS), Serious Sam II maxed (>60fps), Half Life 2 maxed (anistropic filtering is almost maxed, constant 71 FPS) and Ill be testing FEAR tomorrow if I get the chance (from what ive heard, it'll be maxed except for some filtering).
The processor is OC'd at 2.7 ghz, stock fan at 78 celcius. One problem is i f'd my processor's fan up when installing :( one hinge broke off, so only 3/4 pressure is applied, hence why so low (i have 4 case fans). Ill be buying a better cooling solution soon.
