Well, I'm back, after my ban and I was wondering if anyone could tell me which of these PC's is the best?
Number 1? Number 2? Number 3? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DELL-Inspiron-...QQcmdZViewItem I was thinking number 1 or number two, but I'd prefer the opinions of someone else. Cheers. |

Any particular reason for your choice? I know that Core 2 Duo performs better than Athlon 64 x2, but will the 4GB RAM on the second PC make much of a difference? I suppose what I'm trying to say is; Should I go for the better CPU or better RAM?

^^Read my edited post. The only thing I don't like about the first one is the graphics. It's the ONLY thing about that PC that bugs me. I'd be able to get a better card, but I don't know how to install one and I don't know anyone else who can and I wouldn't trust myself opening it up and using a guide to install it. I'd probably go for a 8500GT if I did upgrade.

2nd one.
Better gfx card and amazing amount of memory. The CPU isn't quite as good but it's still awesome and still capable of keeping up with anything you throw at it. I've got an early X2 (before the changeover to AM2 and DDR2) and it's fantastic. Plus it's cheaper. |

Thanks Phil. Does anyone know what games a nVidia 6100 is capable of running? (if any lol) or can someone recommend a store or something in the UK that could possible upgrade the graphics card for me? (If I bought the card and took the card and my PC to them)

To get the most out of games then yeah you'll want something better (no point taking it to a store it's easy enough to do yourself). But short term the 6100 will work fine. It wont run anything the requires Direct X10 but I'm not aware of anything that needs it, Halo 2 PC was going to but in the end it runs on DX9, I guess MS decided that forcing you to get Vista was enough and made it so you didnt have to buy a new gfx card too. |

Hmm..This PC won't be purchased until later in the year, but still planning early is always a good thing, right? Is there any precautions I'd need to take while working in the case? Could someone write up a little guide of what I'd need, the precautions etc. I'd be grateful. I also need a little something to persuade my father it's easy to do because he doesn't like the idea of opening my PC. I don't blame him, either; I've only seen the insides of a PC once, and it's a 9 year old PC.

Yeh, look up the CNet guide, it's really cool. Building a computer? Then look no further! Safety first, aye? 1. Always decharge yourself, unless you wanna get electrocuted. 2. Use the right equipment. ![]() And planning early is good, but when it comes to buying, you will be able to get better stuff.

Uh-huh. I won't be getting this until Christmas so there maybe better deals around then, but the advice helps so I know what to look for in future.

Round about xmas there'll be deals in places like PC World, Toys 'R' Us, Comet, Currys etc.
You'll be quite likely to get a really decent PC for similar prices to those on ebay then. |

@Vanden - Why not buy from eBay if the seller is a trusted seller? I still think even at Christmas, eBay will have better deals than PC World and the like.

tbh I kinda agree with vanden. Returning items on ebay can be a pain.
I'd only use ebay for buying parts and building the PC yourself. Probably 95% of the time ebay is fine and you wont have any problems, but there's still that percentage that doesn't have it hassle free. |

PC World do some really decent PC's now. You pay slightly more but you get better support and customer care.
And why is building not an option? It's cheaper, easier and has more felxibility. It really isn't difficult at all. If you can build a car out of Mechano, you can build a PC. |

![]() That's stupid. You're 14 (according to your profile), I was drinking with my dad at 14, parents bought me a screwdriver set when I was 12 cos I had a love of taking things apart and I was less likely to break them if I undid screws instead of going at it with a hammer. I first electrocuted myself at 8. Sounds to me like your dad's a little bit old fashioned. |
