So I bought a barebone kit from Tigerdirect. It came with a 2.66 GHZ Pentium D processor, 1 GB DDR2 RAM, some case, and a powerup 450 watt power supply. I bought all the other necessary stuff to build it. The installation was fine, unitl I tried to turn the power on. I got nothin.....I've been stuck with the problem for about 3 hours now and nothing good has really developed yet.
I think I have all the correct plugs for the front panel buttons (such as power, reset, LEDs, etc), but the damn thing doesn't turn on at all. When I plug in the power the light on the Mobo turns on along with the Ethernet port light. But when I turn it on, I get nothing. So is this a screwed up power supply (The one I have has some bad reviews....supposedly only about half of them work right) or am I just missing something here (like on the front panel?). I might try a different power supply tomorrow, if not I'll take this **** to Tigerdirect and have them take a look at it. But if any of you can save me some time, I got points waiting for you.

It really sounds like the front panel is plugged in incorrectly since the lights on the mobo come on
EDIT: I forgot to ask do the LEDs on the front panel come on? Last edited by explosions; 07-22-2007 at 12:39 AM.. |

Or if you haven't set your CMOS jumper correctly, that may be the problem. It was with mine after I was done finding a stable overclock for my system. I clicked hte power button on, didn't come on, yet the mobo light saying PSU plugged in was on. Simple CMOS jumper switch fixed it.

Mk, I just manage to start it. But when I get to the splash screen for Bios, it doesn't let me press anything and shuts down. Then when i restart it gives me a siren, which means there's a CPU overheat. I checked the processor and it looks perfectly fine. I think I put enough thermal grease on it. I don't know WTF is wrong here...

Try this - Turn off your computer, unplug the power cable, open the case up and find the mobo -- there should be a watch battery somewhere there, remove it and put it back in - then reconnect the power cord and try turning on the power
This probably wouldn't work but it did fix an old computer of mine which wasn't booting up properly |

-= Double Post =- Well that did work, I got into bios (with like 50 clicks of F2), but not far into bios (like 2 minutes) the thing shut down by itself again. I'm guessing the CPU overheated once again, I need a better fan....

no cpu should overheat that fast, dont blame the fan, it is the cpu itself.

too much paste makes it heat up instead of doing its job correctly.
