Default [HELP] New custom computer Won't boot....

So I bought a barebone kit from Tigerdirect. It came with a 2.66 GHZ Pentium D processor, 1 GB DDR2 RAM, some case, and a powerup 450 watt power supply. I bought all the other necessary stuff to build it. The installation was fine, unitl I tried to turn the power on. I got nothin.....I've been stuck with the problem for about 3 hours now and nothing good has really developed yet.

I think I have all the correct plugs for the front panel buttons (such as power, reset, LEDs, etc), but the damn thing doesn't turn on at all. When I plug in the power the light on the Mobo turns on along with the Ethernet port light. But when I turn it on, I get nothing.

So is this a screwed up power supply (The one I have has some bad reviews....supposedly only about half of them work right) or am I just missing something here (like on the front panel?). I might try a different power supply tomorrow, if not I'll take this **** to Tigerdirect and have them take a look at it. But if any of you can save me some time, I got points waiting for you.

It really sounds like the front panel is plugged in incorrectly since the lights on the mobo come on

EDIT: I forgot to ask do the LEDs on the front panel come on?

if u positive u plugged in the front panel correctly then maybe the front panel power switch is faulty,

Or if you haven't set your CMOS jumper correctly, that may be the problem. It was with mine after I was done finding a stable overclock for my system. I clicked hte power button on, didn't come on, yet the mobo light saying PSU plugged in was on. Simple CMOS jumper switch fixed it.

I just tried all of this crap outside the case and it worked. But then when I put it back in the case, it doesn't work....static electricity?

The placement of the CMOS jumper varies, but it is always a low number like JP2 or JP4. If your lucky it will be marked "CMOS" or "CLEAR CMOS...

Does it make like a beeping noise when you turn it on?

Mk, I just manage to start it. But when I get to the splash screen for Bios, it doesn't let me press anything and shuts down. Then when i restart it gives me a siren, which means there's a CPU overheat. I checked the processor and it looks perfectly fine. I think I put enough thermal grease on it. I don't know WTF is wrong here...

It makes siren sounds, which supposedly means (according to my instruction manual) that the CPU overheated....it sure as hell don't look like it though.

Try this - Turn off your computer, unplug the power cable, open the case up and find the mobo -- there should be a watch battery somewhere there, remove it and put it back in - then reconnect the power cord and try turning on the power

This probably wouldn't work but it did fix an old computer of mine which wasn't booting up properly

Ok, I'm gonna try that.

Well that did work, I got into bios (with like 50 clicks of F2), but not far into bios (like 2 minutes) the thing shut down by itself again. I'm guessing the CPU overheated once again, I need a better fan....

no cpu should overheat that fast, dont blame the fan, it is the cpu itself.

It doesn't matter now, it's working INSIDE of the case. My fan overheats though, plus I need to wait until my neighbor gets back to borrow a XP Install CD.

too much paste makes it heat up instead of doing its job correctly.
