Default what's a good anti virus and performance software?

I had System Works, but it messed up my computer. I haven't checked it for viruses for a while, so I was wondering what's a good anti virus software and won't mess up my computer.

I have AVG but for some reason since it's a freeware, I feel as it doesn't do the same job a 50+ dollar software does.

I heard about Windows Live One Care, looks pretty good and I also need to tune up my computer to make it a little faster, which it offers it. Is this the best software out right now, or should I go with something else?

Kapsersky is better at detecting viruses/malware though I know that for a fact , but NOD32 is simply smaller requring a small portion of your ram and memory

Avast, no doubt. It's free scans PC when you restart extracts Trojans and also alerts you when a Trojan appears. As it finds one, it automatically deletes it.

It's by aol, but it's really good. If you do a little research you'll find it's rated as the best free antivirus anti spyware. I love it

Why would you need that, you can do that in FireFox without any un-needed plugins.

Ok you can clean cookies from firefox but that gets rid of site settings in CCleaner you can choose what cookies to keep so you don't lose automatic logins and stuff.

I used to have Norton but when that expired I tried out a whole load of free software.

I've stuck with AVG free and comodo firewall. I haven't had a virus, trojan, spyware etc since I installed them. Which is better than Norton Internet Security.
