I'd really just like something that I can write, compile, and run programs on. Maybe some wifi but I can live without. I've heard about the medison celebrity but until someone gets one and proves it I'll write that off as a scam. So any suggestions?

PS I'd like to run XP comfortably but linux is an acceptable option as well.

You can pick up decent non-gaming laptops on eBay for as low as 200.

He has to spend 180, for mail in rebates, but still it's a nice one, for not that expensive of a price.

That office depot one looks promising but mail in rebates are a pain in the arse, I'm not sure if I've even recieved the one I sent for my desktop 6 months ago.

Ebay seems super sketchy to me. I love ebay no doubt, but I'm worried I'll get a fantastic piece of crapware.

Just make sure you buy from someone with a good rating, and that you've read reviews on the laptop model.

I bought a 250 dollar laptop on there 2 years ago and it works to this day. It came with a defective battery, but I contacted the seller and he replaced it for free (using priority shipping no less).

Look at reviews for that person, and his ratings. Some people can be trusted, some people can't, you just have to be smart.

That's true, seller ratings are very helpful. Then ebay sounds perfect. Ha ha, I heard about the medison celeb, that seems sketchier than ebay lol.

That looks perfect, but I have to wait till friday when I get paid, and I may not even have enough then thanks to bills

I'm looking for something sub 400, 300 if it's possible. I don't want something that'll have a whole bunch of power that I really don't need, that's what my desktop is for. I just want a neat little lappy to write and compile code. And maybe listen to music or watch a movie if the mood should so strike me.

You could get a USB2.0 PCMCIA expansion card, but its probably a better idea to get a laptop that already has it.
