Default what could've happened to my DVD drive?

My DVD drive just stopped burning and playing DVD movies.
Is still plays music cds, but it won't burn them.
I tried updating the drive but it's still not working.
I was thinking about opening up my computer and try to reinstall them, would that help?

both, it's a combo drive.

burns DVD/cds and plays DVDs.

I just tried updating the drive again and says there's no better match for the one I have.

I didn't even use it that much...

what's a good external DVD burner, for a cheap price?

Could it just be dirty? If I open up the computer to clean it up, would that help?

Happened to my old computer, and it had stopped working because I installed service pack 2, and my DVD Burner was not compatible with it

Yeah that's probably why, is there a way to make it compartible with Service Pack 2? Perhaps if I upgrade to Vista or another type of XP?

Go to Tigerdirect.com and get an internal Liteon Lightscriber for 40 bucks. That's what I did. And if your computer is SATA compatible, get a SATA Liteon, it's even cheaper (around 32 bucks).
