RECCOMEND ME A GFX CARD < $200 PCI-E is a must

Here's the scoop. My brother needs his computer upgraded, for Team Fortress 2 and Portal. Probably Crysis later on, but that's not a priority at this moment.
Here are the specs.

3.4ghz P4 with Hyperthreading (NOT Core Duo, or Core 2 Duo)
2Gb RAM
XFX GeForce 6800XT

If I buy this:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=321122
(XFX GeForce 8600 GTS w/ @256 DDR3)

Will that be sufficient enough to play some system-intensive games? I know the CPU is pretty weak now, but It's a Dell computer, and I can't just swap the CPU out for another one. Any advice is appreciated.

It's also on a dual-monitor setup,(2x19") but that's trash for playing FPS's, so games are only played on one monitor.

Another question, why is the 7800GS more costly than the 8600GTS? Doesn't the higher the number mean better the card?

I just want a good card, under $200, that won't be a trash card in 6 months.

Reccomend me something

NO

That is a 8600GT which is not as good as a 8600GTS. It may have more memory, but it has less processing power which makes it a crap choice.

Kyle0wnsYou: Right now, the best DX10 card in terms of performance/value is a 8800GTS which is out of your price range. The 8600GTS is in your price range and is the next best alternative so get that.
However, if you are able to wait until November 11th, the 8700GT is going to come out which should provide a good middle ground between awesome performance and good pricing.
I suggest getting the 8600GTS 512Mb http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...a%2b8600%2bgts
It is from eVGA which means you can do a step up. Bascially, if a better card comes out in 3 months, you just pay the difference and you can swap the cards. More details here: http://www.evga.com/stepup/

Just wait until the G90 Series comes out this November.

Prices for the G80's will drop like flies.

Thanks Pope. The "step-up" program is something that would definitely keep me buying cards from EVGA.

I'm gonna get the 8600GTS 512mb, thanks guys!
