my pc has 4 slots for ram in my computer. 2 of them have 512mb sticks. can i buy 1 more or do i need to buy 2 more? ty

ok thanks. one more thing. I have an intregrated NVIDA GeForce 6150 LE. I was thinking of getting a e-GeForce 7300GS 256MB. would this be worth the upgrade?

nah, get something better than that
7900 GS or GT is a good one
if you're low on budget, get a 7600 GS

so should i go for it? by the way here are my specs
Dimension E251
Sempron 3400+ 1.80 GHz
Windows vista ultimate
1 GB DDR2 gigs of ram(plan on adding another 512mb)
intregrated NVIDA GeForce 6150 LE

since your running vista i would not add 512mb, but 1gb...
maybe go for an evga 8600gt or gts

oh, but still you should get a 1gb not a 512 especially since you are running vista and dual booting xp.
