one of my friends was talking to me about how he wanted a new pc. I convinced him that it is better to build than buy pre-built. He said he might play games on it from time to time...anyways:
he as $1,070 to build a pc and that is including a monitor he wants an at least 19inch monitor(lcd) has to intel(dual core) what can i recommend for him? |

Hmm. Thats a pretty tight budget if he wants the monitor too.
I'd say the nvidea 7600 is pretty nice. It can run any high end game without lag. Tested games: Guild wars F.E.A.R Call of duty 2 Halo Combat evolved Halo 2 vista Counter strike : Source Quake 4 Quake Wars Demo I'd say get an nvidea motherboard no matter what. 2 GB RAM 200gb internal HDD ( really cheap nowadays ) 700 Watt power supply 6 Cooling fans A nice sound card ( not really sure which one ) Some decent speakers...I'd say nothing too over-the-top. Probably something by logitech or creative. And a sexy case to put it all in. |

cpu: intel 6750 (best price/performance) or 6550
motherboard: any motherboard with a p35 chipset (my choice is the asus p5k series) (nvidia chipsets are overrated and overpriced) hdd: samsung spinpoint (yea yea, "barracuda or western digital" are THE BEST...but they are not samsung drives are alot quieter with the same performace) case: i would go for antec psu: any corsair psu, 700 watts is out rageous for for a build such as this.. sound card: none, onboard sound is great and you should try it out before paying for a sound card. video card: 8800 gts, but if you cannot afford it either a ati x1950 pro or xt..or the nivdia more expensive version 7900gtx..8600 cards suck, dx10 is not fully developed yet for people to be buying dx10 cards..just my 2 cents. |

Kid, do some research. I bought a 200 dollars Samsung flat panel for less than 200. And buying a 2gb of RAM is a total waste of money unless you want to fill up all 4 slots with 2 gigs. Just buy 2 1 gigs and it turns out HALF of what the 2 gig comes out to be. Integrated intel? Im not as stupid as you, i can actually find out how to conserve my money. Quote:
Are you serious? Just get a water-cooling system if you want to get that many. He doesnt want to overclock the hell out of it. Thats a total waste of money. And i dont see how his budgets "tight" Im making a good computer with 500 dollars [excluding monitor], and a bigger HDD. If i wanted to upgrade the graphics card to a 8800 then i still could, and have around 200-300 left to spend on a monitor. Seriously, do some research. All he really needs is like 3-4, where even then, that might not even be needed. |

If you want me to explain:
My mobo is somewhere in the hundreds, i forgot the price. HDD is around 60-95 depending on if i want a SATA or IDE. [Im still deciding] Im getting around 1gb-2gb RAM, which is 100. [2 1gbs, not 1 2gb] Intel Quad was...I forgot, like 300. Duo's are around 200. [Im still deciding] PSU is 50. [600watt] Video Card is still in debate. Although, IM not getting a 8800, so its not going to up the price 150 or so dollars, but if your friend got one, he'll still have leftovers. And....The case for like, 70 dollars. Logitech speakers for 30. [2 speakers with Sub] I think i missed something... Well, mine came out to like 700 dollars...Although, thats probably because i upped some things i didnt have before, and changed it around a bit. The point is, he can get a good set and still have money left. 19 inch monitors are around 150-400, depending on what it is. The Samsung i got was...200 dollars for monitor/Tv. It just depends on what he chooses. I picked what i wanted for my usage. |

I built mine for very cheap... Most decent parts these days cost between $50 and $100 on newegg.com.
I built mine for under $500, so I'd start out with what you NEED, then upgrade from there. If you want to get a decent CPU, for price, I'd say an Athlon x2. Intel's are better, but typically cost a bit more. The Quad Core makes me drool and ruin my pants, but it's impractical most times. Personally, I have an AMD Athlon x2 4600+, which is very very fast and sub-$100. My video card is a GeForce 8500 GTS, which will give you great performance, but $1000 is a lot of money, so I'd suggest getting an 8600. I've got 2 516 MB sticks (1 GB), but I'd upgrade to 2 1 GB sticks.
