I use AMD's just because they've been good to me for a long while. And they're typically cheaper. Although, if I build a huge gaming system, I'm using Intel's.

Intel's better based on current gen CPUs. Although they may be more expensive, they're way better than AMD at the moment. However, AMD soon may surpass Intel with their new Phenom lineup. but im gonna vote for Intel right now.

just to put it into perspective.

Would a Intel Core 2 duo 2.6ghz be better than a Amd Athlon 6000 + (3ghz) ?

Absolutely yes.

C2D is in effect 2 processors.

so 2.6GHz x 2 = 5.2GHz.

Athlon's are single cores so you would only get 3GHz from it.

Plus C2D's are a lot easier to overclock than AMD 64 X2's.

Saying that tho don't be put off by the clock speeds of newer processors being lower than the last wave of processors. What they lose in clock speed they make up for in FSB and multi threading.

The speed of the clock doesn't matter anymore, because each processor can now perform separate commands at a time, exponentially increasing the performance. even if you could find a processor that runs at 5.2ghz, a core2due would kick it's ass running even at 2 ghz on each core.

I voted intel, just because I'm a mac fan.
