Hey all, Asked this a lil while ago.. Im tempted to make the change from Norton over to some of these free ones I heard of. Is Avast the generally used one? How often does it update its Def? As for firewall, is Norton FW still nice to have or should it be changed out?

Systemworks is another question. What would replace the cleansweep or the Norton Windoctor more? Something that maybe could really filter out junk or so. Seems system is running more sluggish lately... tempted to do a full reinstall but then I would be working for a couple weeks restoring what I would like on it and configure it again lol.

Figured I would ask you all, since normally I never have a problem with how I set my stuff up.. however I am willing to learn new ones and see if they work better for me. =)

I have Zonealarm Pro for firewall and AVG for antivirus. Works fine for me.

For the love of god take norton off! I had it once and it was worse than terrible.

I use avast and have had no problems

Seems good to me.

Zone alarm pro is pay tho.

AVG I dont know anything about.

So the Avast Home free edition rivals Norton on all its abilities?

I used to use Clamwin before I switched to linux. It's lightweight and gets the job done.

Comodo Free Firewall it super great..But dont get Zone alarm it sucks ass..

Avast is the best one ever, I get atleast one update everyday, I never get viruses, you will have to register with avast Home, then they email you a free key right after, then you can use it!
Its what I use and I really recommend it!

ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite is the best you'll ever find or need. If you pay for norton, the last thing you'll ever have to buy in terms of security.

I use avast too its great and free. I get updates a lot but they scare the **** out of me cause I usually have to volume up really load and they pop up and say the database or whatever was updated. Get its used by a lot of big companies.

NOD32 Beats Avast in everyway i had a virus sent to me when i had Avast i got infected The same one tryed to get me when i had NOD32 installed and it got blocked and deleted You have to pay for it but You can get it free by other ways *cough* Torrents *Cough* But you can get a free trial.

Get rid of Norton for sure.

Comodo firewall is great and free.

For AV you should go for Kaspersky, but that's like $45.

So if you want a free one it would be AVG. Or Avast.

I recommend that and AVG.

But really if you're behind a router then you don't need a firewall.

Uninstall IE (to stop you being tempted to ever use it). Install Firefox and then get the extension NoScript for it. With NoScript you're safe from pretty much everything as it disables everything except flash, you can re-enable things by clicking the S icon in the bottom right corner of the browser. I'm using it to speed these forums up an extraordinary amount by blocking mybloglog and googleanalytic scripts from running.

NoScript was a pain in the ass to me....I did not find it useful at all...But spyware blaster + adblock means a all most spyware windows pc...
