Default 2 Q's. Swap ubuntu for XP (dual boot) and Viruses access other partitions?

1.)Ok so currently I am dual booting ubuntu with Vista, and I want to get rid of ubuntu and swap it for XP and keep Vista how would I go about this?

NEW:1b.)I deleted the ubuntu volume. It's like 12GB, and I want to make it like 6GB, is it possible to join it all back to my primary partition and then just make a new one of 6GB? Or would I have to format everything first?

2.)This partition of XP is probably going to get heavily infected with viruses, so would it be possible for viruses to access my Vista partition from XP?

Cheers for all help.

1.) Format the partition with ubuntu on it, then when installing XP, choose the formatted partition.

Ok thanks, I think I can just format that partition with computer management in Vista, just checking.

But I'm still unsure if viruses will be able to "cross partition" and infect ,my Vista partition?

I don't know too much about that. I know for sure if you don't mount the Vista partition, and don't ever use removable media in both the XP and Vista partitions, you should be good. Basically, isolated the XP from the Vista. However, I wouldn't be that worried about it, unless you download a ton of virus files and then run them in Vista.

Ok well I wouldn't ever be running them in Vista just XP.

So hopefully it'll be alright, thanks.

I pretty much am forced to

I have to used ndiswrapper to get my wireless card to work. The problem is, it must be a touch less sensitive than the windows version, because my signal drops out a lot under linux, but never in windows. Whatever.

New question: I deleted the ubuntu volume. It's like 12GB, and I want to make it like 6GB, is it possible to join it all back to my primary partition and then just make a new one of 6GB? Or would I have to format everything first?

On windows, norton partition magic works wonders, delete the partitions you don't need, re install ubuntu.

Deleting ubuntu wasn't as smart as I thought, I got rid of GRUB so now it won't boot in to Vista. I have my Vista install CD and I know that I can get a bootloader out of it, think it's called EasyBCD, but I don't know where to find it.

Does anyone know how to get it?

Thanks a lot.

I don't know about "EasyBCD" but if you cannot boot from your hard drive at all, I recommend you to boot from your vista cd, go to recovery, and type: fixmbr.
This will delete grub and write a windows bootloader.

Sorry didn't get to see your help until now.

But I've got it pretty much figured out, I installed XP into the free space, I guess I'll have to keep the 12GB, put in the Vista install disk and repaired the boot loader, now I can boot into Vista but not XP. So I'm going to install EasyBCD and all should be fine.
