My optical drive appears to have dissapeared from Windows, its not being recognised at all, neither is any virtual drives that I make via Alcohol 120%.
I've checked the Device Manager, and it appears the drivers are installed, but the actual hardware cannot be found, this wouldn't seem so odd if the error was exclusive to the real drive, but when I get this error with a virtual drive its a bit worrying.
This has happened since I recieved an error upon booting up my laptop a few nights back, when I booted up I got a blue screen with an error printed at the top saying something about missing memory, it wasn't a BSoD, and I didn't get chance to actually read what it all said, when it was restarted it worked fine, but the optical drive and virtual drives are no longer found.
My HDD is well on its way out, its slow and clunky, as well as growing very hot, so I'm wondering if this may be a cause?
So, is there any way I can get Windows to find the drive again, as I have no way currently to read cds (and I've just had a new mp3 player and software arrive, so I really need to get at the disc)?
Thanks in advance for any help.
