Default Vista back to XP (How?)

I currently have Windows Vista on my machine.
It came preloaded with Windows XP, and I have an XP install disc.
How can I 'upgrade' my computer to Windows XP (again :P) without losing all my files and settings?

Thanks for any help

You should go into the Bias when the computer starts manily with F2 at startup and change the boot order to CD and then enter the CD and it should be clear from there

Well that would still wipe his files when he installs XP which is why i need to know if hes dual booting or just having a fresh install of XP with wiping Vista.

If hes just having XP then he needs to back up his files somewhere. Its impossible to back up your settings because XP and Vista are 2 different OS's.

If your dual booting then its a totally different story.

I just want XP, Vista is useless (to me anyway), the only plus is the UI.
So I'd have to backup my files to just have XP again, then just install as per usual?

I also detest Windows Vista. Although the skinning capabilities surpass XP.

Back up all your files onto a portable HDD

Format your HDD

In BIOS set boot priority to CD.

Insert XP CD

Install

Restore files

I guess

XP = Better in general.

Thanks for the replies, I see I have to backup - damn, that's a set back but I'll still eventually get it done :P

Thanks.

Try turning on internet connection sharing, then disabling one of the connections involved.

When I did that, my DNS resolver service would randomly halt. I couldn't even access freaking localhost, let alone the internet.

Also, how about the fact that raw disk access is locked down due to a nonfunctional security patch?

When my connection messes up, Vista always crashes, and I have to restart. Very annoying.

I just had the most epic Vista crash ever. Shutdown, Task manager, objectbar, AND Firefox all crashed at the same time. >_>

o.o Mista Vista who lives next to me crashed his car yesterday, umm.. anyway, I had vista preloaded when we got this computer, and it had all the bloatware i just installed xp pro and works fine, also, if you can make a partition on your HDD, you could install XP on one and then transfer the files? then delete the Vista partition?
