Default Need Help Upgrading

I'm pretty much a noob at this, so you'll have to spoon feed me here. Since playing Crysis on my computer, with it lagging every second, and crashing, I've decided that I think it's time for an update. I want to update my ram and graphics card.

The graphics card I want to get is the Inno3D Geforce 8600GT. I've checked it's compatibility and it looks compatible with my motherboard. I currently have NVIDIA GeForce 6800.

I currently have a setup of two 512mb ram sticks (DDR2), and want to get this 1gb stick.

I'll post any specs if you require me to. Thanks in advance.

well i think your going to want 2 gig ram. also does your pc have a intel processor or amd and which model? your pc may not be able to run it at all even with new graphics. speaking of new graphics why go 8600 when this xfx 8800gt only about $90 USD more ($199 USD)

and the ram well before you buy online check local your in london i'm sure you wont have trouble finding a pc shop. if you could post these specs that would be good windows version, motherboard, the ones i already asked and PSU wattage. good luck

Hi, thanks for your reply. I'm running on Windows XP, and here are my motherboard details:

Spoiler for Motherboard Details:
Field Value
Motherboard Properties
Motherboard ID <DMI>
Motherboard Name Dell Dimension 5000

Front Side Bus Properties
Bus Type Intel NetBurst
Bus Width 64-bit
Real Clock 200 MHz (QDR)
Effective Clock 800 MHz
Bandwidth 6400 MB/s

Memory Bus Properties
Bus Type Dual DDR2 SDRAM
Bus Width 128-bit
Real Clock 200 MHz (DDR)
Effective Clock 400 MHz
Bandwidth 6400 MB/s

Chipset Bus Properties
Bus Type Intel Direct Media Interface

And I have a Intel Pentium 4 Processor.

That graphics card looks a bit too pricey compared to the one I picked out.

1. The 8600GT sucks when it comes to playing Crysis

2. If you do decide to get anything better then an 8600GT, your cpu will bottleneck it.

I just want to run Crysis at a speed without constant lag and crashing, and are you suggesting I get a whole new processor?

no... i guess the 8600GT might run it at low settings with a low resolution.

Yeah, just looking to run it in mid range. Also would there be any difference between 2gb and 3gb of ram?
