Default get rid of message "you can now turn off... "

In Windows XP for me, whenever I turn off my computer, I get the message "It is now safe to turn off your computer now." So I have to hold the power button on the computer for about 10 seconds, until it goes fully off.
I'm pretty sure that there is a way to get rid of this error message, but I'm not sure how. Does anyone else know how to?
