Default Looking for 2.5" HDDs

Just a quick thread

Im looking for two 2.5" HDDs for my Mac and PS3 (I know I posted in the Windows area but it said hardware >.<)

The only requirement is for them to be very quiet, I don't mind what RPM as long as it isn't rubbish. Price range around the £80 mark and 250GB would be nice. (Thats 250GB each drive not in total)

I've been looking around myself but I thought I'd better ask just incase.

Franz

The PS3 hard drive is 5400 RPM.... It's a bit risky going with anything higher..... which would you want?

Well they don't have to be the same drives if you think I should get a high RPM for my MacBook. Though I heard that the a higher RPM in the PS3 speeds up some games loading times. I guess I should stick with 5400 Just incase then for the PS3 as for the MacBook, something thats fast but not so fast that it will drain my battery.

^_^

Well it sounds good
I shal book mark that.

You see, the PC I have in my main PC goes CRRKKKR KKKRRRKKCCCC CRRRR, and its just so annoying (admittedly It came with the PC and I didn't buy it) so I want to make sure I get a good quiet HDD that wont loose my data.

fyi there is nothing wrong w/ a 7200 rpm drive on the ps3. it is actually better, just not by much, and usually isn't wort the higher cost.

Thanks for clearing that up I heard it made it a bit better on some games and I did see that the price was higher. Appreciated.

I guess ill be going for two 5400 RPM drives then.

IDE or SATA? And £80 as the limit for both together or for each, so £160 altogether?
Also, Western Digital, Maxtor and Seagate all all very good makers of HDDs.

Whoops my bad. I should have stated those thing

SATA for both and £80 for both so yeah, total of £160 more or less.

I wasn't too sure on which Makers are good or not since I haven't ever needed to buy a HDD before. Now that you have told me that ill go look around ^_^ Thankies El Xando!

Were you reading the comments here: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131277...roduct_reviews
Because people seem to have said it doesn't matter and that it could infact be a good thing.
Also, you may be able to get that Hard Drive cheaper, I'll have a quick search. Also I couldn't find a 2.5" Maxtor or Seagate, so...

Yeah I was reading the comments from that HDD. They say its the heads docking but seeing as my PS3 doesn't move and my mac doesn't move much then I don't really need it, or want if it is annoying. :l
Any other HDDs that you suggest?

Ill be looking at other ones and reading reviews

Well, that seems to be the only 250GB made by one of the brands I said above, and it's in your price limit, so I'd just go for that if I were you.

Yeah looks like it.
£76 here.. http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(18807)...-8MB-SATA.aspx

Still reading reviews and looking around though.

Edit: Or I could go for a 320GB for ~£30 more: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=377

>.< Thats a lot of space.

That first link you posted is the same price as the one I posted above :/
Plus that 320GB one is the same make so it'll probably click as well. Just go for the 250GB

Hmm well its only £30, and for an extra 70GB [Realistically, less since it will be formatted, so probably an extra 50GB?] Ill consider both but it will definitely be one of them unless someone burts into this thread screaming and shouting a readon why not too

I have a readon. His name is Apple.
And it would be 70GB extra. They'd both be formatted loosing the same amount of GB.

Put /*me behind the line you want it in, without the asterisk.

Example:
[action=Adiuvo]told Xando to use /me.[/action]

I got this 100GB one for my MP3 player a while back. Stalliontek's service and delivery speed is excellent... though they don't seem to have anything bigger than 100GB :/

In terms of brands, Fujitsu seems to make sturdy, reliable notebook drives. My old HDD in my MP3 player was a Fujitsu and it lasted for over 3.5 years without so much as a hiccup, even after the player was dropped several times.
