All Depends on the model of it, there are core 2 duo processors that beat the Quad's in benchmark tests - so if you have anymore info as to what processor it is that might help us.

I would go with the Core 2 Duo 3.0, it has better performance benchmarks than the Quad 2.4

I think Quad core's are completely unnecessary at this point in time. Most games/applications don't even take advantage of the Dual cores yet.

I just purchased a Desktop with the Quad that chux_chux has linked to lol (it was a steal of a deal though) - The Duo core he has listed is better than it unless I choose to overclock my Quad (which I won't do - temp goes too high and I don't have proper cooling right now)

Zalman offer some awesome cooling solutions. I built a media PC so stuck in a Zalman and it's silent and 10 degrees cooler. On the slowest speed I can run CPU-Burn for approx 10 mins before I start to worry about the temp.

With that I could probably overclock to some extreme speeds but I'd rather have it silent. It boots quick anyway so no real need.

Try running P95v255a and see what temps you get...never heard of CPU-Burn before.

If you don't plan on upgrading your comp often, I would just go with the Q6600.

I'm using a Q6600 G0 in my sig rig right now and it's just soo much better than my old e6600.

NEvolution it been to long....What new?

Also longterm I feel it better to go with the Quad..Once Vista and liunx start utilizing the muti core cpu the Quad will greatly have better benchmarks performance than the CD2...

I hate my P4...

I know, I can't even move my P4 to another case without upgrading the cooling. My current Dell case has a plastic air duct... thing that goes around the heatsink to make all the air go across it. When I moved it to a new case, after about an hour of use, the CPU would overheat and Linux would move into using 10% efficiency to save the processor. Not cool.

i just switched to a Zalman 9700NT from the stock cooler, and it makes a huuugggeee difference. At stock speeds i get 9C core 1 and 7C core 2. Overclocked from 2.66 to 3.6 i get 13C core 1 and 11C core 2. The Zalman cooler performs best when the cpu is overclocked and under load imo.

i've been using coretemp, intel's tat...its accurate, its not really cold in my house, about 69C. I have a lot of fans blowing into my case and a few blowing out...and i leave my case open so that keeps it cool too. I could probably get better temps if i used better thermal paste (im using the stock zalman one) and got a zalman 9700 LED...the copper would probably make a difference.

Been going nuts with computers. :P I haven't touched any consoles for a very loong time LOL.

But yea, that's exactly what I mean when one should get a quad now rather than a dual core especially when the price for a Q6600 is so low.

Btw, this is what I've been up to.

umm yea...there's no way you can get below ambient temps with air cooling nor water cooling.

You either have to do chilled water, tec, phase, etc...but most definitely not air or water.

I suspect the temperature probes on your motherboard may be malfunctioning.

those are the temps at startup, they definately get hotter after a while. And those are the temps of the cores separately, the total temp of the cpu is about 25C i believe at idle.

oh and nice ****ing pC!!!!! what's in there?

The temps of the cores have to be higher than that of the CPU.
Either you have your numbers mixed up or the temp probes are broken.

1. The E6750 is dual core

2. If you overclock the Q6600 you will get much higher fsb's than 1333

3. The Q6600 has a higher multiplier, so better overclocking

please think about what you're going to say before you say it.

Definitely go with the Q6600. It will do better on Crysis.

I've got the Q6600 and am very happy with it, it's overclocking capabilities are great and ran the crysis demo perfectly
