Question Do All LCD Monitors Suck?

I just had a LG 22" L226WT, which I returned because of color bleed and the picture wasn't what I was expecting. Now I have a Samsung 2253BW in front of me, which is Samsung's newest monitor which just came out this week. The bezel and the exterior look great, but the colors aren't as accurate as I'd like (even with tweaking) and the viewing angles are only decent. I'm comparing all this to my three and a half year old Dell CRT, which has more accurate colors and much better viewing angles. Can anyone reccomend a monitor that'll be amazing? It's hard to find one that matches up to, say a LCD HDTV. Everytime I see my dad's Sony 40" I'm amazed at the picture quality, so it'd be great to get that way when I'm using my computer and gaming. I'd really like one that's 22" and is $350 that's truly great... any reccomendations?

The colours are an OS issue, for that u need Mac OS X . Google around for some reviews. Monitors have higher resolutions than HDTVs By the way.

Yeah, I know monitors have higher resolutions, but HDTVs mostly use much better panels.

Samsung 216 BW 21.6". I love it. I've had it for about 7 months and everything has been going great. Not one single dead/stuck pixel.

Says who? LCD's are LCD's :/ The contrast ratio may be better on HDTV's which will lead to a better picture overall, that could be the case. You're just very picky :/

Actually, there's four different types of LCD panels: http://www.pchardwarehelp.com/guides...anel-types.php

Typically, every monitor out uses the lower-quality TFT TN panels, which are known for below average viewing angles and artifacts in videos.

BTW, Samsung showed off a S-PVA 22" monitor at CEBIT, the 2263BW, which should be mcuh better than their TN panels, but pricing and release information haven't been revealed yet.

Maybe yours eyes just fail at seeing correctly? All monitors have their flaws, as humans we must adapt to these flaws and overcome their boundaries.

This is a great monitor, no doubt, I just hate the viewing angles and artifacts during movies, but I guess I'll keep it because it looks great for everything else. I'm planning to get a higher quality S-IPS panel monitor next year when they become more mainstream (S-IPS monitors feature amazing picture, great viewing angles, and really do display 16.9 million colors, TFT monitors use a weird overcoating (which is noticably different than non-TFT monitors) to simulate 16.9 million colors. And yes, I am picky .

If there is an issue with it, why not return it for a new one?

It isn't a defect, it's a problem with all TN-TFT monitors. That's why you can get a 1680x1050 22" for $300 while you can get a 42" 1920x1080 HDTV for $2200 (bad example, but you get the point...). There aren't any 22" monitors out that use higher quality panels that are easily available or that're even made by a good brand. Apple makes 23" S-IPS Cinema Displays for $900, which is 3x the price of a 22" TFT panel.
