I got this new laptop (A Compaq Presario F700) that has Vista,
The first thing I did was uninstall all the unwanted things(Norton, Toolbars, HP Games, Microsoft Office Trial, etc.) and installed AVG.
Now sometimes when I log in, Windows gives me a warning that Norton is outdated and that I need to update.
I don't like getting that, and is Norton really gone?

The first thing I did when I got my new computer was wipe Vista and Install XP.

Why?

Vista is a very useable OS now. It was crap when it first came out but what version of windows isn't?

Once Vista is fully cracked I'll be updating my main PC to it.

Why? Vista isn't as bad as people say it is.
And I'm not buying another XP just for this laptop.
But I do have 98 in Virtual PC if I need a good command prompt because I think that the Vista CMD cant do much and for older games that don't work on newer versions of Windows.

Dual boot XP and vista. I like vista, looks better even though i have had a few problems which Xp didnt have.

My buddy says Vista is a pain in the ass. He said it was slow. I helped him dual boot XP with it, and he said that XP is twice as fast. Especially in games.

Your buddy's pretty much full of crap. Vista may be more processor-heavy but it's really not noticeably slower. Yes, this is me, defending Vista. Shock, awe.

That is pretty shocking.

What are your specs? He has a crappy base-level HP. He says that that Vista rates his specs as like 3.5 out of 10. Seems to me that HP did the bare-minimum to get the computer Vista-Approved.

The highest you can get so far is a 5.9...so 3.5 out of 5.9 isn't that bad considering his system doesn't seem to be built for extreme gaming. I'm agreeing with Freeplay tho...cause atm my Vista is faster than my XP

It doesn't say anything about 10... only your number. It's out of 5.9

My CPU gets a 4.7, my RAM gets a 5.3, my GPU gets a 5.9, my GPU's 'gaming' rating is 5.5, and my HDD gets a 5.7.

Specs:

Intel Pentium D 2.80GHz, clocked up to 3GHz; 2GB main RAM; GeForce 7900 GS w/256 (512?) MB RAM; 320GB SATA HDD (Maxtor STM3320620AS; 7200RPM, 16MB cache)

And it's two years old

He's got an Intel 2.0 Ghz Processor, 1 GB of ram, two 150 GB hdds, and an Nvidia 68-something. I can't quite remember.
My Comp-
Dual Core Intel 3.0 GHz Processors
2 GBs of RAM
DUAL SLI Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX's
Two 250 GB Maxtor HDD's.
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
Any my computer is 3 1/2 years old, heh heh.
