Default Laptop Hard Drive

Can anybody help me with connecting up a laptop hard drive to another laptop? I don't mind trying any DIY methods but only if they're not too risky. I am also happy to pay for an adaptor or anything I might need to connect a second hard drive.

I don't know any DIY ways or anything, but an easy way is just to make it an external HDD via a USB enclosure - http://www.xpcgear.com/ue201.html

is it a proprietary drive (fits only the laptop it came with) or is it just a normal 2.5 inch drive?

I think it's a 2.5 inch. It says Hitachi Travelstar.

Is it SATA or IDE? Does it fit in the new laptop. It should be just a matter of sticking it in and connecting the SATA/IDE and power. Does it use a proprietary connection though?
