Can anybody help me with connecting up a laptop hard drive to another laptop? I don't mind trying any DIY methods but only if they're not too risky. I am also happy to pay for an adaptor or anything I might need to connect a second hard drive.

I don't know any DIY ways or anything, but an easy way is just to make it an external HDD via a USB enclosure - http://www.xpcgear.com/ue201.html

Is it SATA or IDE? Does it fit in the new laptop. It should be just a matter of sticking it in and connecting the SATA/IDE and power. Does it use a proprietary connection though?

A rather not go threw the troble of opening a laptop...Some laptops drivers are a pain in a ass to move...I say use what frozen gave you..
From the pictures you got a ide drive so use frozen link or pick from one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...07130&name=IDE
