Hi,
I was recently reinstalling XP Pro on my fathers IBM Thinkpad T40, and as I was updating and installing all the drivers I noticed that my audio did not work. Now This happened after I had updated and installed the audio driver for that model. The weird thing is that after I installed it, it was working fine and then a couple hours later I noticed that it stopped working totally. Has anyone ever had some kind of a similar problem, if so could I hear your solution please. Thanks in advance.

Did you do a windows update between installing the driver and the audio going?
If so windows has replaced the working driver with a dud. Either way I would reinstall the driver and see if it happens again (if it works again).

Yes I have been trying to Google a lot, the only problem is that they don't have any more updated version. The most updated version can be found on the IBM website.
@Joe, After trying to reupdate the driver, and restarting I still have problems. No Logon or Logoff music, and no sounds while in XP either with sites like Youtube or apps like WMP.

does the comp detect an audio device for the laptop?

Check in the Device Manager make sure there is no yellow icons on any of the Hardware if so right click on it an click properties.
In the box Device status there will be an error code. Also open Volume Control and make sure the there is not a check in the mute box Try headphones to see if sound comes out to make sure its not the speakers gone bad. |
