Default USB 2.0 problem

A while ago, my uncle ordered me a thing with 4 USB 2.0 ports to go into the computer. So I opened up the computer and put it into the port thingy. The same kind of thing that my Linksys thing goes into. Windows recognizes that there are 4 new ports, but they do not work when I insert a cable for example my ipod. does anyone know what is wrong?

Sorry for my lack of computer part names.

Thanks

So it's a PCI card that has 4 USB ports. Do you have the correct drivers installed?

I'm not sure where to get the drivers. I think it is a generic card.

Nevermind, I put the card into a different PCI slot and it works fine.

In that pic you can see a USB port on the back of the PCI card.
I have a simmilar one with the USB port on the back.
What is that port for?

I don't think thats a USB port. My guess is that its for interfacing with a USB port on the front of the case maybe, but it also looks like those CD audio ports you find on sound cards.

Yes, it is a USB port. It doesn't have a specific purpose but you can connect things to it just like any other USB port - it's out of the way and would be something you leave connected the entire time - like a USB hub that extends to the front of your computer through a drive bay or a WiFi, Bluetooth or other wireless adapter.
