As the title says, I just upgraded my computer.
New motherboard, processor, ram, hard drive (the new C: drive has nothing on it, old D drive still has stuff on it). We installed everything correctly, but when we try to start it we get no post, no beep, no display, no nothing. We tried disconnecting the ram - still nothing. Tried disconnecting the hard drives, DVD drive and Floppy drive - still nothing. Also notable is all of the phase LEDs on the Motherboard stay lit, which indicate how much the CPU is loading. We now assume it is either a bad processor or motherboard, but as my Dad is going to Germany for 2 weeks on Tuesday, is there anything else we can try so I am not stuck with a bad processor or motherboard for 2 weeks? Here's what we bought: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3 iP35 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHz (1333MHz) Socket 775 6MB L2 Cache OEM Processor OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 1066MHz/PC2-8500 Reaper Memory HPC Edition Dual Channel Maxtor 500GB SataII hard drive. Thanks very much for any help.

check your power connections/PSU
ive seen cases where it does exactly the same as yours and its because the PSU was faulty

The power is fine, we didn't buy a new PSU and the computer was running fine before the upgrade
![]() Is there anyway to tell without replacing them whether it's the processor or motherboard that has gone wrong if there is nothing else we can try?

i had the exact same prob as you!
so the probs can be the memory, cpu, and mobo failure to have any of these means the computer cannot even start. Test your ram on another computer, that is pretty easy now for mobo/cpu i had to go to frys and get my money ripped off to find out that my mobo was bad so it fried my cpu, fortunately i got a new mobo and cpu i would say try a new cpu on the mobo but if it is like my case it might just get fried, but then you can always return it if the new cpu doesn't work then replace mobo imo

OK, here's what happened.
We've tried unplugging the ram (which would give a beep error sequence, not no beeps) to no difference. Tried putting an older processor in the motherboard, no difference. Our last hope was that the Graphics card was incompatible, so we bought a new DDR2 one, to no avail. So we have determined that we received 2 faulty motherboards. Now I am stuck with my old computer for 2 weeks

Nope. It was me and my dad, my dad has assembled computers before and we were following the instruction manual to the dot. It was definitely right, and we think it was probably a bad batch.

Are you sure the tiny 2 pin plugs that go into the motherboard are in correctly and in the right order. The Instruction manual for your motherboard shows the right order that the power switch, reset switch, speakers etc.... should go in. You cant plug them in randomly.
