Well, my monitor is a 19" widescreen and it is capable of 1440x900 resolution, but it looks dodgy (Screen looks too narrow or too squashed) on every setting apart from 1024x768. The Monitor is plugged in like:
PC----VGA To DVI----VGA Cable----VGA Cable----Monitor
Adapter (1 End) (Other End)
So basically, the monitor is plugged into the actual PC by DVI (Because of a VGA to DVI adapter) but when I use the other adapter on the other end and try to plug it into the DVI slot on the monitor, it won't fit and I think this is why I'm not getting the best resolution. The DVI connector on my monitor looks like this:
so wait, you have a dvi graphics card, a dvi monitor and they are bot connected with a vga cord with 2 adapters?
im sorry your story was a little confusing.
also btw 1440x900 is def windscreen 1.6x1 while 1034 x 768 is standard 4x3
so you need to make sure that any resolution you put is standard or it will look messed up
