That graphics card is terrible. Everything else is decent though. Don't expect it to be able to run Crysis well though.

I would say that is not future proof.

the graphics card is horrible, and that motherboard is just okay

whats your budget ? that way we can really help you play your new rig

----

also are you going to be gaming ? or what is this going to be used for ?

Budget: None.
Built for: Not for the future, just going to make it in the future.
For What: Its just going to be a general use pc.

I would suggest going with a 9800 gt at least, but if you don't want to go that high, then I would suggest a 4670 maybe.

I just need something with a VGA output, that handles hd vids.

Might be a desktop for college next fall.

the 9500gt and 4670 are a bit better and are just a little bit more

If you are only going to get one card, then buy the 4670.
If you are going to eventually get two cards , then buy the 9500gt so you can sli them on that motherboard.

also your going to need to buy a heatsink for that processor.

If you plan on upgrading to the Q6600 on the 680i SE, the EOL is Q1 2009. Also, that board is built for dual core overclocking, so if you do anything fancy with a Q6600 on there, expect an FSB wall very close. (Some people hit a wall at 3.0GHZ on a Q6600)

greyone im going to have to disagree with you about the sli later thing. with a card like that sli is unimportant anyways. just get the better card (the 4670) and dont worry about sli with a crap card.

And TensorWM, I doubt sully will be OC'ing lol.

Dude ... I can play hd movies on integrated ****ing graphics. Why the **** do you people always feel the need to suggest over expensive things for what someone needs? a 9500gt just to play HD movies? Are you ****ing kidding me?

However, I agree with the part about getting the best possible motherboard for your budget, expansion may be needed at one point.

Throwing my opinion in there.

If you want your rig to be future proof, at least get a 45nm processor.
The 4670 will be a great choice for HD decoding and the casual game.

Well isn't that the genius idea, right when Core i7 is coming. I don't see whats wrong with the Q6600, i doubt he'll be overclocking so heat shouldn't be too much of an issue.

He's right, especially when you see the benchmark figures of the Core i7:

A 2.93GHz Core i7 940 Series PC: Score 17,966!

Where-as a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo E6600 Series PC: just 4,300!

hence why i said at least.

future proof doesnt have to mean getting the latest thing. Something that should last a relatively long time should do well, and the 45nm should fit.

If they are looking to buy NOW, then 45nm is the way to go, if they can hold off a bit, then sure get the i7.
