Default x32 on x86/x64

Quick quesiton, I had an answer from research and other questions but I wanted to make one last assessment. Here it is:

If you have a mobo that runs x86, x64 bit architecture will it run x32 operating systems?

I researched the net and heard of problems with utilizing all the ram and various other program running.

I asked a friend and he said it could prevent software problems.

I asked my schools tech support (who I have no trust in) and they said it makes no difference at all and will run like native.

Has anybody experimented with this? Does anyone have a definite answer?

-Thanks

Should run fine, my system came with 64-bit installed and when I reformatted I used 32-bit, it would be wise to use 64-bit however 32-bit works fine (no problems I noticed). The thing about 64-bit OS's is that not all programs will work, at least that's what I was told and hence my reason to switching to 32-bit on this machine

I'd advise against using a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit architecture since you won't be getting maximum performace with it. Besides, nearly every OS today comes in an x86_64 version.

By x32 i assume you mean i386-i686

x86 = 32 bit
x64 = 64 bit

I use 64 bit XP and it works perfectly. Ive only had a couple of really old games that didnt work (compatability reasons) but i got them working with Dosbox. Other than that everything else works perfectly. Drivers are all compatable, its really stable the only crashes i had was when i was overclocking it to much (Trying to make it reach its limit).

So all in all If you have 4gb of ram or more use windows XP 64bit if not keep with xp 32bit. Dont know about vista 64 bit but ive been using 64 bit XP since june.

P.S 32 bit operating systems work 100%. Also have on my computer dual booting Ubuntu 32bit.
