I have just finished downloading and installing the official beta of WIndows 7 from Microsoft.

For me personally the install took a long time but I am sure that is due to the fact I upgraded and have quite a lot of crap on my computer.

Overall I think the performance is a lot faster than Vista and have not faced many problems yet.

One thing that is quite annoying is that the user foler has now been replaced with something called "Libraries", you can still access the user foler but the most common folder you will use is the libraries folder, this only contains Documents, Picture and Videos. Ok if you use those a lot but I personally use the Download folder a lot which isn't included.

The taskbar is a lot cleaner now, with applications show as icons, when you hover over the icons a panel will appear with the application window(s), a nice touch is that all the tabs used in IE are show as seperate windows making tab selection easier.

The notification icons have taken a more black and white approach from what I can tell on my system which is ok but does look a bit bland.

The system rating has been updated with the highest score now 7.9.

It's kinda funny, the Vista beta also took a hell of a long time to install, but the retail takes like 30 minutes.

im on windows 7 right now.

I opened 300 ie pages withought it crashing on vista it crashed at 20

haha, we can add more responsive and can handle big loads better

One thing that annoys me, and i don't know if it's only my computer, is that whenever a windows explorer window is open all the aero bits turn black. Is this just a problem with my computer.

I was planning to get the torrents but in the end decided not to. But I saw the official beta was being released and kept an eye out. I love so much, which is scary

Just some possibly dumb questions; if I installed Windows 7 what about my hardware? Are drivers pre-packaged (similar to Linux) or will I have to wait for drivers to be re-released for Windows 7? Is there any benchmarks out for Vista VS 7's speed? Why not just use PrtScn? And finally... where can I get this?

I didn't print screen purely for the fact I had my phone nearby and it helps with credibility

For Windows 7 on my VAIO, most of my hardware worked from installation, then others like display drivers I got from simply going to Windows Update and *boom* fully-functional Windows 7.

I have noticed installations are a LOT quicker on 7 than on Vista, and boot-up time is decreased.

could be your grfx card. 258mbs are required for the aero effects.

Transparency is disabled when windows are maximized. The same thing happens in Vista.

Vista sucks id rather use windows 95. And i did for a while. Much more enjoyable and hella fast on 3gb ram and 3.2ghz cpu

My GFX isn't that bad considering what it is, nVIDIA GeForce 6800LE (AGP)
it's quite high for Aero considering with the lowest score being 3D gaming

I quite like Windows 7, it's a bit faster and responsive, cleaner and it just feels better than Vista did so early on.

It's not pirating when the SAME exact thing was released by Microsoft.

Make sure you are clicking the download link from IE. It won't work in Firefox or Chrome.

Same happened for me Firefox kept dying

I know, but just get it off of a torrent, its the same file with the same md5 hash, just released a little early. It's not a "New" beta, it's the same file. Just use the key you obtain from the MS Beta on the torrent, works perfectly fine.
