Hi all, I'm really lazy and I hate Vista... so I've decided to install XP on my machine over the next couple of days, I just have a fear of drivers, to me their all letters/numbers/random stuff and it confuses me, so I was wondering if theres any application that detects hardware on an XP machine and downloads drivers automatically? I've seen websites offering this but ya know... the trust issue sticks out there, I could get the drivers myself but I'd probably botch it up so any advice or whatever would be appreciated.

Well, if you can find out your computer's exact make and model, you might just be able to get all the drivers from the manufacturer's site. At least that's what I did when I got this PC with a broken HDD. :/

Yeah as above, If it's a store bought computer they should have all the drivers on the manufactures website,(for both XP and Vista - unless its a Sony) if you have your model number to hand.
If Not there's Programme called Driver Genius ( http://www.driver-soft.com/ ) it's $30 but it does everything it says on the tin, iv'e had to use DG many time, it scan the computer for missing and out of date driver and provides the best place to find them. And it can also back-up all your current drivers and them reload them after install, (although that might not work going from Vista to XP) |
