Default wireless configuration problem

Everytime I try to switch to the windows xp wireless configuration utility from the linksys utility, my computer just restarts itself. The reason I wanted to switch is because the linksys utility is messing up when it is trying to find the access point. It says there is no security on the ssid and the ssid comes up buggy looking, ex, "linksys&~#(" instead of just "linksys"
