Default reinstalling windows help please....

Hello,

So here's the general problem, and Im using XP:
my pc reboots constantly at beginning where you see the windows loading bar.

And when I insert the installation/recuperation cd, it gives me this error:

The file INF txtsetup.sif is damaged or missing, status 32768

The installation program cannot continue.
Press any key to quit.

Does this mean my cd is unusable, rendering my pc unusable?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Yeah, you're CD is pretty screwed. Is it a real XP CD or a burned copy?

Burned copies can have errors that make them unusable.

Its always best to get a valid Windows CD.
(BOLD for the mods)

If it is a burned CD, I suggest re-burning it at the lowest burn speed.

Or go buy it.

If it is not a burned CD, you could download a copy of Windows XP and use your CD-Key. (I'm pretty sure that's not illegal, it may be though, so look into it)

Just googling "INF txtsetup.sif is damaged or missing, status 32768" brought up some possible answers.

Most popular seems to be
1. Hardware failure
2. Scratched disc

that is murkily illegal, beause the version you download is NOT your version you purchased, but another. I would not recommend this route as its legality can only be decided in court. What I would do is:

1. Call you PC manufacturer, and ask for another CD. Provide them with Proof of Purchase, and all the yada yada, and they would probably send you another one for around 15 USD, plus S&H.
2. Rip your backup Windows installation/recuperation cd to another computer, and replace the txtsetup.sif with version from online that seems to match you specs/standards, etc.
3. If all else fails, call Micro$oft, and explain your situation. Chances are, is that, with Proof of Purchase, they will provide you with some alternative, be it downloads or replacement CD's.

My 2 dollars, as 2 cents aren't worth jack these days.

The cd is legit, and none of the above suggestions work. so I guess its just time to buy a new pc then, since its already over 4 years old anyway...

cheers for the help

Linux is definitely a good option for the old pc if you buy a new one for your windows needs.
